Co-Head Coach: Jim Miller, Eric Keller
Years at School as head coach: 21st season for Miller
Career Record at school: Miller: 350-33-4
Assistant Coaches: Chris Ortner, Chris Smith, Jason Zastrow

2010-2011 Dual Meet Record: 21-1 (1st IIAC, 1st NCAA)
2010-2011 National Qualifiers and All-Americans: Mark Kist (3rd/125), Tommy Morocha (4th/133), Matt Kelly (141), Jacob Groth (6th/149), Carrington Banks (4th/157), Adam Weber (165), Bradley Banks (2nd/174), Dylan Azinger (184), Byron Tate (1st/197), John Helgerson (1st/197)
Returning Qualifiers and All-Americans: 133 Tommy Mirocha (4th), 174 Bradley Banks (2nd), 184 Dylan Azinger (6th, 174 ’10), 197 Byron Tate (1st 2011 & 2010)

Top returning starters:
133 Tommy Mirocha, 4th NCAA
174 Bradley Banks, 2nd NCAA
184 Dylan Azinger, 2x NQ, 6th ’10
197 Byron Tate, 2x NCAA Champ, Midlands Runner-up

Top incoming wrestlers:
Drew Wagenhoffer (141-49) New Jersey Champ
Kodie Silvestri (149-57) 3rd Jr College 0210 Nassau

Season outlook:
Usually, a national championship team experiences a lot of turnover as the experienced seniors who won the title move on and are replaced by new faces. That has happened to some degree at Wartburg, but they still have four returning All-Americans who will give them a good chance to repeat. The best of these is Byron Tate at 197, a 2x NCAA champ and Midlands runner-up who might be the best wrestler in DIII this season. Bradley Banks surprised many by coming from the 8th seed all the way to the finals, and he also returns. All-Americans Tommy Mirocha and Dylan Azinger also return. Filling six lineup spots will be tough, but the depth of the program shines through as Gilberto Camacho is back at 125 after a year off, though he was 26-3 in 2010. Kremer was 22-6 behind Mirocha and he moves up to 141. Newcomer Kodi Silvestri was a JUCO All-American who had a win over 2x runner-up Stierly of Ithaca. He will be at either 149 or 157. There is no reason to think this team could not win another NCAA championship, but the new starters will have to come up big for the Knights.

Top incoming wrestlers:
Tyler Smith GA State Runner Up 197/HWT
Brennen Kelly MI State 7th 157/165

Season outlook:
Heidelberg welcomes its third coach in as many years as Ned Shuck moves from Minnesota to Ohio take the reigns from Nathan Shearer. He inherits last year’s OAC runner-up team that brings back as many as seven starters from a year ago. Highlighting that group is 2x NCAA qualifier Tom D’Alessandro. D’Alessandro has yet to win a match in his two trip to the tournament, but he will be one of the more experienced wrestlers at the weight. Andrew Johnson was also an NCAA qualifier last season as an unlikely OAC champion. Four other OAC placewinners return in a conference that has just seen its membership drop by one with the recent loss of the Wilmington program. Mount Union will be tough to catch, but Heidelberg, along with conference foe Ohio Northern, will give it a go.

Chandler Trout (174/184) Staples, MN

Season outlook:
Concordia put together a great season a year ago with three All-Americans, a program high 12 wins, and their best ever finish at the NCAA tournament. They also defeated Augsburg in a dual meet for the first time ever. With four NCAA qualifers and seven total starters back from that team, the Cobbers are looking forward to another good season. It will be difficult to replace the points from NcAA champion Phil Moenkedick and 5th place finisher Justin Berns, but if qualifiers Presler, Hohbein, and Schmitz can make it on the podium, it will be a start. Tom Bouressa was 4th in a very good 285 weigh last season and opens the season ranked #1. Clay Nagel has done a fantastic job brining the Cobbers to national prominence, and they are showin no signs of giving that up anytime soon.

Kurt Knutsen (157) FR – State Runner-up for Simley, MN
Zach Riester (157) FR – State Placer for Ellsworth, WI
Daniel Egesdal (149) FR – State Placer for Chaska, MN

Season outlook:
In his three years leading the Augsburg team after taking over for Jeff Swenson, Mark Matzek’s squad has never finished in less than second place. With three returning All-Americans, including a pair of finalists in Ponce and Valek, he is on track to pull off that feat for a fourth straight year. No team matched Augsburg’s four finalists last year, and having two fo them back bodes well for the future, even if Ponce will only be wrestling in the second semester. Joining Valek and Ponce as a returning All-American is sophomore Chad Johnson who finished 7th at a 285 weight class that graduated its top three finishers from last year. It will be tough to replace national champions Jared Massey and Zach Molitor, but Augsburg has proven that it can successfully reload. A freshman class laden with state placewinners is as good an indication of that as anything, and the 2011-2012 season begins the way most do for the Auggies: in the discussion of favorites to win the NCAA championship.

Years at School as head coach: 1st season
Assistant Coaches: Jim Aguiar, Dustin Rudy

2010-2011 Dual Meet Record: 9-6 (4th NEWA)
2010-2011 National Qualifiers and All-Americans: Mike Willey 157
Returning Qualifiers and All-Americans: Willey

149- Cody Oliverio- Conference Placer
157- Femi Wheeler- Conference Placer

285- Jake Gagnon- Conference Placer

Top incoming wrestlers:
Matt Nicholson-141
Brandon Conrad- 157
James Tarpey-165
Adam Reed-197

Season outlook:
Plymouth State finished as the runner up in the NEWA duals and they return six NEWA placewinners from last year’s 4th place team. IN order to help improve on that finish the team has upgraded its schedule and will get out of New England more regularly. MIke Willey was a national qualifier at 157 last year, but he is dropping to 149 to try to repeat as NEWA champ and become an All-American. Josh Huber has placed in the conference twice and should challenge for the top spot again this season. If the rest of the returning placewinners can move higher on the podium and the newcomers can fill the holes in the lineup, a top three finish in New England should be possible for first year head coach Matt Eldredge.

133 Marvin Amazan HS AA
141 Alex Gomez HS AA
149 Kevin Collins NJ State Place Winner
157 Brett Sanko PA State Qualifer
174 Grant Dickey PA State Qualifer

Season outlook:
After a great season that saw the Bombers take eight to the NCAA tournament and come home with four All-Americans and a 4th place team finish, Ithaca is returning six qualifiers and two All-Americans as they attempt to crack the top five again in 2012. Seth Ecker and Jeremy Stierly each made the finals last year with Ecker bringing home the title and Stierly finishing as a runner-up for the second year in a row. They will form the backbone of what will again be a strong team, though both could move up a weight class or at least start the year up before dropping down later. Derek Brenon had a very good season that resulted in him earning the top seed at the NCAA championships, but it is not clear if he was completely healthy at the end of the year, and he failed to place. He will be looking to rectify that situation this season. Cohen, Sanko, and Mahon all came in unseeded and fell a few matches short of placing, but the experience at the tournament will aid them in the upcoming year. The incoming group is highlighted by a pair of junior college All-Americans, and the Bombers will likely be counting on Jules Doliscar to step in after the graduation of All-American David Priest at 174. The team lost a few stalwarts in Woszczak and Priest, but if they can fill those holes adequately, they should be able to challenge the top teams in March.

Top incoming wrestlers:
125 Bobby Wunnicke, Northern Illinois transfer, 4x WI state champ
165 Kevin O’Brien, Northern Colorado transfer, MN state champ

Season outlook:
La Crosse had a strong team last year that again won a trophy at the NCAA Championship they hosted. There will be some open weights this year, as senior stalwarts Albie McKinney, Matt Mauseth, Cory Ferguson, and Mitch Artist have graduate. That said, there are four All-Americans anchoring the lineup including 2x champ Bebeto Yewah and 2010 champ Mike Schmitz. Both will be heavily favored to win titles in 2012. Sheley and Mayer are the other placewinners coming back as the Eagles attempt win another trophy in their hometown. POtential new starters include a pair of DI transfers in Bobby Wunnicke from Northern Illinois and Kevin O’Brien from Northern Colorado. Wunnicke was a 4x Wisconsin state champion, while O’Brien attended Army before transferring to Northern Colorado and putting in two seasons there before making his way to La Crosse for 2011-2012. One more name to keep in mind is Bobby Dorn, a senior at 149 who has spent time behind 3x All-American and NCAA champ Mauseth but now gets a chance to step in after putting up a 29-7 record over the past two seasons.

Season outlook:
This is a transitional year for Roger Williams as Jon Egan comes in to share head coaching duties with longtime head coach Dave Kemmy. Kemmy was promoted to become the athletic director at Roger Williams this summer and will spend this year handing off control of the team to Egan. The team Egan will inherit has four returning NEWA placewinners and a solid group of freshmen. The strength of the lineup will be from 165-197 where all four of the NEWA placewinners reside. One of their top freshmen, 3x New Jersey qualifier Dante Porrazzo, will be a probable starter at 125 to get things started as one of the few freshmen in the lineup. The rest of the team is hoping to build on its experience to improve their record in 2012 and send a few more guys to the NCAA tournament.

Season outlook:
Luther looks to be a young but improved team over last year. All-American Kevin Bokoski has graduated, but outstanding freshman Daniel Mendoza is back for his sophomore season and he will get things started for the Norse. In addition, the team has brought in a number of junior college transfers who figure to make an impact on the lineup right away. Also challenging for starting spots is a group of freshmen that includes five state champions and several other placewinners. After a losing record in 2011, the Norse should be right back on track in 2011-2012.

Season outlook:
A pair of NEWA placewinners will help lead the Engineers in head coach Steve Hall’s 2nd season at the helm. Additionally, Brian Jennings put up 17 wins last year in his first season at 125. With a smaller roster, the incoming wrestlers will have a chance to shine, and there is a pair of high school New England placewinners that figure to challenge for spots in the starting lineup. Other freshmen could step in and give the WPI lineup a very youthful look that bodes well for the future of the program.

Omar Santiago and 133 and Joe Pesce at 285 each finished 6th in the Empire Conference and also return. 125 should be covered by AIC transfer and 3x NY state finalist Kyle Crisafulli while Scott McGregor split time at 133 with Santiago last year and will move up to 141 for 2012-2012. It is all about the future at Coast Guard. Even with a poor record, the Bears return a pair of NEWA placewinners in Josh Getty at 141 and Luke Taylor at 165 along with 22 match winner Joe Kidwell. All three will be on the team beyond this season as a recruiting class laden with state placewinners comes of age. Adjusting to college wrestling can be tough, but this group of incoming wrestlers has a chance to put Coast Guard on the map again in the future.

Nathan Fitzenreider shook off a disappointing 2010 NCAA tournament to come back and place 3rd last year to enter 2011-2012 as one of the favorites to win it all. Zobac was in the round of 12, while Oyster dropped both of his matches. Also returning are 20 match winners Joby Bodi and Jason Bonham at 157 and 165. Some newcomers will make the North Central lineup in 2011, as numerous state placewinners join this year’s squad. The most intriguing newcomer is transfer Brian Dyer, a former 2x Illinois state champ. He was a 2003 high school graduate who wrestled at Indiana for a time, but appears to have been out of competitive wrestling for at least five years. He wrestled 133 at Indiana, so it will be interesting to see where he fits in with Fitzenreider, Zobac, and Oyster. Added into that group is Central Michigan transfer Justin Zimmerman who also wrestled 133 in his one year at CMU. If the Cardinals can get their best guys in the lineup all at once, they will be a tough team to beat.

Season outlook:
Elizabethtown looks to continue the success from last year’s team. There will be a few changes in the lineup and additions of some guys coming off of injury for the second semester. Both Bill and Julian Meaney will be back from injuries hoping to make it through the year unscathed. 2010 national qualifier Tye Boyer will be looking to return to the tournament, while Will Bentley hopes to finally break through and punch his ticket. There is a nice mixture of young talent coupled with the experience of some talented upperclassmen. The top recruit coming in is probably heavyweight Jeremy Rieth, a 4th place finisher in PA a year ago. He will likely start the year behind Meaney and get reps at the tournaments while standing ready as needed.

Season outlook:
Olivet put together a nice season last year in winning the Midwest Regional, qualifying two for the NCAA Championships, and bringining home one All-American award. Both All-American James Myers and national qualifier Trevor Tyler are back at 165 and 174, respectively, and they will form the backbone of a strong team. Kenny Richmond and Logan Renas each finished 2nd at the region to just miss a trip to La Crosse. Richmond will move up to 141 where he will be a favorite since Waynesburg’s Garber has graduate. Renas was the top seed at 285 before he was upset by Waynesburg’s Fedorka. Both Renas and Fedorak return to fight it out for the qualifying spot at that weight. That gives Olivet at least four legitimate potential qualifiers without accounting for any improvement from the rest of the lineup, which is very experienced. It’s possible that the Comets could send out a lineup with no freshman and as many as eight juniors and seniors. It should be a good year for the team as they try to have more than two All-Americans for the first time in school history.

Central College of Iowa Dutch
Head Coach: Eric Van Kley
Years at School as head coach: 5
Career Record at school: 23-46
Assistant Coaches: Kevin Donahue, Matt Diehl, Bob Kuennen

2010-2011 Dual Meet Record: 10-10
2010-2011 National Qualifiers and All-Americans: Kalen Greiner – Fr (NQ-125)
Returning Qualifiers and All-Americans: Greiner

Top returning starters with accomplishments:
125 – Kalen Greiner (N Qual, Defeated Mogg (BV – 2009 AA), Defeated Drees (UW-P NQ)
157 – Joseph Atwell (23-15)
174 – Tommy Van Renterghem (26-13), honorable mention in rankings last 2 years
184 – Greg Barner (19-14)
285 – Jake Crawford (14-8)

Top incoming wrestlers:
149 – Ryan Davis (JUCO NQ for Iowa Central CC)

Season outlook:
Eric Van Kley proved he could build a program at Great Falls before bringing that talent to Central where his teams have compiled .500 or better records in each of the past two years. Every starter from last year’s team is back on the roster in 2011-2012, so there is no reason to think they will not put together another winning season in the IIAC. Kalen Greiner was an NCAA qualifier as a freshman last year, the first qualifier for Central since 2004. He is back with three more years to go. Joseph Atwell and Tommy Van Renterghem both topped 20 wins last year and will challenge for top spots in the conference. Five returning Central wrestlers placed sixth to go along with Greiner’s 4th place finish. Central increased their point total at the IIAC meet from 49 to 83.5, and now they will be looking to climb the standings.

174 Marlon Duque (FR.) NJ SQ
184 Eric Bach (FR.) Old Dominion transfer
285 William Fletcher (FR.) Cleveland State Transfer

Season outlook:
Wilkes brings back a very experienced team from last year with a big group of returning starters. The top wrestler is All-American senior Anthony Dattolo at 149. Additionally, Metro placewinners Ryan Wilson, Ben Marich, and Dustin Stough return along with 22 match winner Shane Everett. Myzar Mendoza was in the middle of an outstanding freshman season that included multiple tournament titles before an injury ended his year at 25-7. He will move up to 133 for 2011-2012. Buddy Gouger, a Metro runner-up in 2009, could also be in the mix in the upper weights after missing two seasons. This is a deep team, and several of the starting spots will likely be undetermined even into the second semester. Coach Jon Laudenslager has a huge roster with great competition for some weight classes. A nice group of state qualifiers and placers, along with a couple of transfers, will only add to the competition.

Williams Preview

Williams College Ephs
Head Coach: Rich Hasenfus
Years at School as head coach: 2nd
Career Record at school: 12-11
Assistant Coaches: Scott Honecker

2010-2011 Dual Meet Record: 12-11 (2nd NEWA)
2010-2011 National Qualifiers and All-Americans: Ces Antista (141), Corey Paulish (149), Tom Foote (285), Ryan Malo (4th 197)

Returning Qualifiers and All-Americans: Antista and Foote

Top returning starters:
Cesare Antista (141) NEWA Champion, NCAA Qualifier
Tom Foote (HWT) NEWA Runner-Up, NCAA Qualifier
Mike Lomio (184) NEWA 3rd

Top incoming wrestlers:
Kyle Gaffney 165
Dan Kurnick 174
Dan Evangelokis 125
Adam Datema HWT

Season outlook:
As Rich Hasenfus enters his second season coaching Williams, he will be doing it without two of the winningest wrestlers in school history as All-American Corey Paulish and 3x All-American Ryan Malo have graduated and moved on. However, the other two NCAA qualifiers from last year are back in Ces Antista and Tom Foote. Other top starters back include NEWA 3rd place finisher Mike Lomio at 184 and 17 match winner Kaison Tanabe. Nikola Mirkovic will move down from 285 with the departure of Malo as the Ephs look to repeat and improve upon their 2nd place NEWA finish from last year. It will be tough to replace Paulish, Malo, and All-New England Josh Mattana, and the team will be counting on some incoming freshmen to step in and contribute right away.
