  1. Looks like its going to be another exciting year, two questions:

    1. What happened to the LAX 125?

    2. What happened to Isaac Dukes of Case?

  2. So Elmhurst finishes top 10 again and doesn’t even get ranked in the top 30, but yet 2 other teams from the same conference do? Seems a bit off.

  3. I agree with CLM: Where’s Elmhurst?

Also, I’d say Billy Painter (ONU) deserves ‘Contender’ ranking. With his past record, I’d bet he’d take out at least 3-4 of those listed as contenders at 165.

  4. i think u may find that the 2 incoming freshmen at ursinus could possibly make an impact by the end of the yr at 125 & 133

  5. Elmhurst did indeed finish in the top ten last year but lost 2 of their 3 qualifiers and also their 25lber who was 3rd in the regional. They do have Rau back but that is about it, aside from a few possible impressive newcomers. Also, keep in mind that these are dual rankings and while Elmhurst won the CCIW and finished higher at nationals, they are 0-4 in their last 4 duals against North Central.

  6. Yes, Elmhurst lost 2 of 3 all-americans, but to say Rau is about all they have returning is selling them way short. They also have Early returning, who if not for getting injured days before the regional, most likely would have been a qualifier last year. Also returning are Vargas, and Denhof, both past Regional place winners, along with a couple guys that were sitting behind all-americans, as well as a very talented incoming class of freshmen and a couple of very solid transfers. To not be in the top 30 at all is ludicrous. Pretty confident they will be back near the top 10 again at the end.

  7. @ Jaxon: the same reasoning you have applied to Elmhurst’s lack-of-rank could be used on Augustana–all they had last year was two NQs (neither of which came close to AA) and one of which is now gone. Yet, they have made the ranking… Definitely seems a bit off!

  8. KA, that is exactly right. Augustana also lost another one of their best wrestlers (Vavra – 174) and lost to Elmhurst in their dual 29-9. Not to pick on Augustana at all, just using them as an example for this reasoning. I’m not saying how high Elmhurst should be ranked, all I am saying is that it does not make any sense that they are not at least somewhere in the top 30. I think the same thing goes for Olivet. To honestly think that neither of these teams belongs in the top 30 seems completely wrong.

  9. @ Kingston: Broderick’s not listed on the current year’s roster–I guess he could be either injured or transfered.

  10. Russell from heidelberg with a placement at eastern michigan and then picks of a win over leonard of olivet is looking good, johnson and d’alessandro also tough.
