It has come to my attention that the d3wrestle.com email box has been full for a little while and messages have been bouncing back to the sender. This has been fixed and should no longer be a problem.

1

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week is Mike McInally of Rochester Institute of Technology.  McInally became the only Division III champion at the New York State Intercollegiate Championships this past weekend at Oswego.  McInally, the top seed at 125 lbs., won five matches to take the title including a 3-1 victory over #2 seed Dan Bishop from Division I Buffalo in the finals.  The win moved McInally to an undefeated 22-0 on the year.

A junior from Bergen, New York, McInally has won titles at Oneonta and RIT, and he is currently ranked 5th in the latest d3wrestle.com Division III rankings.  He is a two time NCAA qualifier who has each year made the round of 12.  His win in the finals this past weekend was his 90th career victory.  RIT is back in action tonight against Morrisville and this weekend at a quad match at Thiel.  McInally will hope to capture another Empire Conference championship on February 21st to earn a third trip the the NCAA tournament.

Bear in mind that the team has 27 current members, and it is unlikely that those students would be there if there was no wrestling team.  For a tuition-driven school, athletics is an important part of enrollment, so eliminating a 27 member team may not make good econcomic sense.  Additionally, the team has historically been successful in New England and nationally as evidenced by the information below:

139 All-New England (conference placers)
47 Conference Finalists, 21 Conference Champs
8 All-Americans
2 National Finalists
1 National Champ
15 Scholar All-Americans
11 Nationally Ranked teams
1998 Conference Coach year – Coach Rich Hasenfus

Please write in support of the team so their 2009 NEWA Championship appearance will not be their last.  Norwich is the only college wrestling team in Vermont, and we do not want to see another state devoid of college wrestling.

Gettysburg Wrestling to Appear on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

1

From Gettysburg Sports Information

The Bullets pose with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” designer John Littlefield (center) following their meeting in November.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. –Gettysburg College’s wrestling team will take the stage in primetime with an appearance on ABC’s hit TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. The Bullets played a part in an episode filmed in nearby Quincy Township in which a house was built from scratch in under a week last November.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” teamed with Dan Ryan Builders to demolish and rebuild the home of the Drumm family in just 106 hours. Looking for inspiration on designing one of the rooms, actor and designer John Littlefield led a film crew into Bream Gym on Nov. 13 and interacted with the Gettysburg wrestling team for about two hours. Part of that meeting will be aired in the episode set to run this Sunday.
