d3wrestle.com 2019-2020 Rankings #1

0

Here are the d3wrestle.com Preseason Rankings for the 2019-2020 season. There are a few things to remember about the first set of rankings.

  1. No freshmen or non-DIII transfers are listed in this set of rankings. They will start to appear as they compete.
  2. Information about weight class changes mostly came from the coaches. If a coach did not provide any information, a best guess was made. There are some weights that will end up being wrong. The rankings will be adjusted as guys compete.
  3. If a wrestler is not expected to compete until the second semester, he should not appear here.
  4. There are probably some mistakes, typos, or misspellings in this list. A best effort will be made to correct them as the season gets going.

2018-2019 Dual Meet Record: 2-4

Top Incoming Wrestlers:
Chad Grimm (Freshman, 3x Illinois State Place-winner, State Runner-up in 2019)
Nikolas Perovic (Sophomore, Transfer from Lindenwood University-Belleville, 5th at the NAIA American Midwest Conference Tournament)

Season Outlook:
First-year head coach Graham Karwath took over the MacMurray College Wrestling program in September after being named the Head Coach at Lindenwood University – Belleville in April. Lindenwood University – Belleville then announced that the school would be consolidating with Lindenwood University after the 2019-20 academic year, which left Karwath in a difficult position. The MacMurray position opened in late August after the resignation of Alberto Quiros, Karwath jumped at the opportunity to take over the program.

Karwath added a few transfers from Lindenwood University – Belleville which added depth to the small MacMurray College squad. The 2019-20 season will feature at least eight underclassmen in the starting lineup but Karwath will look for improvement from the beginning of the end of the year. “I want our guys to recognize their small improvements from the beginning of the season to the end if everyone improves then we will end up much better than we started,” says Karwath.

Karwath added two assistant coaches and one volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming season; Jeffrey Haley (NAIA All-American, 3x NAIA National Qualifier), Conner Linehan (2x NAIA National Qualifier), and Conor Karwath (U.S. Open Senior All-American in Greco-Roman). Karwath spoke about the wrestling staff: “I am very happy to have men that work hard every day towards a common goal, raising the level of our program.”
