Wrestler of the Week: Jayden Cardenas

The 2nd seeded wrestler won five matches on his way to the title including three falls and and a tech fall. After a 6-1 decision in the semifinals, Cardenas secured a first period fall against #3 ranked Dalton Rohrbaugh of York in the finals. Rohrbaugh finished 3rd in last season’s NCAA Championships. His championship helped the Red Dragons to a second place finish in the event.
Cardenas, a junior from Brooklyn, New York, is in his second season of competition with the Red Dragons thanks to losing the 2021 season to COVID cancellation. in 2022, he qualified for the NCAA Championships at 133 lbs. after winning the Mideast Region title. He compiled a 17-5 record last season, winning the NYS Intercollegiates and Messiah Petrofes tournaments. After this weekend, Cardenas is 8-0 on the year and 25-5 for his career. Wrestler of the Week: Luke Hoerle

The first d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week of the 2022-2023 season is Luke Hoerle of Stevens Institute of Technology. Hoerle opened his season by winning the Ned McGinley Invitational at King’s at 125 lbs. He opened with a tech fall and pin to reach the semis against #2 seed and 2022 regional 4th place finisher Jared Kuhns of York where he prevailed with an 18-5 major decision. That set up a finals match against 2022 NCAA qualifier Austin Fashouer of Wilkes. Hoerle used a pair of takedowns and strong riding to pick up a 7-2 decision and the tournament title.
Hoerle, a junior from Westfield, New Jersey, spent all of last season at 133 lbs. where he went 23-11 and finished in fourth place at the Southeast Regional. He finished 10-4 in his COVID-shortened freshman year in 2020-2021 and won a match at the NWCA DIII Championships. His career record now stands at 37-15.
