The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week this week is Jared Massey of Augsburg.  Wrestling at 197 lbs., Massey won both his matches as Augsburg defeated the  #1 ranked team in Division II, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and the #6 ranked team in Division III, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  In the match against UNO, Massey defeated the top ranked Division II 197 lb. wrestler Jacob Marrs by a 6-2 margin.  The win proved crucial in the Auggies’ 18-12 win.  Massey also won by major decision against Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Massey, a junior from Circle Pines, Minnesota, is currently undefeated at 16-0 with a tournament title at the Auggie Brute-Adidas Open.  He also picked up crucial wins against ranked wrestlers from Coe and Wartburg to help Augsburg win the NWCA National Duals earlier this month.  Massey is the defending NCAA Champion at 197 lbs., capping a 30-1 season with a dominating performance including a fall and two major decisions on his way to the title.  This season, he has been the wire to wire #1 ranked wrestler on both sets of rankings.  Massey transferred to Augsburg last season as a sophomore, having wrestled his freshman season at Wisconsin in the 2003-2004 season.  Augsburg will next compete on Saturday, splitting the squad between the North County Open and Grand View Open.

WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week: Taylor Green

1

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for this week is Taylor Green of King’s College.  Wrestling at 157 lbs., Green was 5-0 at the Budd Whitehill Duals to help King’s to a 5th place finish in the event.  Green’s best win at the event was a 6-2 decision over NCAA All-American Luke Miller of Ohio Northern.  Prior to the event, Miller was ranked #2 at 157 in the d3wrestle.com Individual Rankings.  Green also defeated contender Kyle Long of Trine, Colton Eyer of Lycoming, Kory Leonhard of Baldwin-Wallace, and Cory Mahoney of Cortland on his way to an undefeated weekend.  As a result of his performance, Green has moved up to #8 in the January 20th d3wrestle.com rankings.

Green, a senior from Montgomery, Maryland, is 15-4 on the season and 56-36 for his career.  He was 13-3 last season before an injury kept him from competing in the Metro Conference Championships.  This year, he is currently the 5th ranked wrestler in the Metro conference, but he is sure to move up after this past weekend’s performance.  King’s will next wrestle Thursday against Muhlenberg and Saturday at the Metro-NEWA duals.

Note: The rankings were changed at 1:40pm Eastern to reflect a correction to the match last night between Olivet and Trine.  The original result had Pompei of Trine defeating Tucker of Olivet 7-1, but that was an error.  Tucker did not wrestle last night, but instead Kenneth Richmond of Olivet wrestled at 141.
