d3wrestle.com Rankings (and Metro)

15

For these rankings, we have started to take people out who either haven’t wrestled or have only wrestled once at the beginning, and we have also put people in the weight class where they have been competing, though the second semester may see some of those wrestlers drop to where they were expected to be at the beginning of the year.

Johns Hopkins Taking Down Autism

2

From the Johns Hopkins Wrestling Website:

Take Downs for Autism Pledge Form in PDF FormatGet Acrobat Reader

BALTIMORE, MD — The 2010 -11 Johns Hopkins Wrestling team has dedicated its season to taking down Autism.  This year the Blue Jay wrestling team has partnered with the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute to create the “Take Down Autism Program”.  This program will raise awareness of autism and allow the wrestlers to raise money for CARD with each takedown they complete.

Today the odds of a child being diagnosed with Autism is 1 in 110.  Our goal is 110 takedowns during the dual meet season.  The wrestlers will also be visiting students and volunteering their time at Kennedy Krieger Institute and local schools.

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute is a multi-faceted, multidisciplinary program for children with autism spectrum disorders and their family members. CARD combines research, clinical (assessment and intervention) services, as well as community outreach and training to help improve the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, their families, and the community who cares for them. CARD endorses a flexible approach to treatment, adjusting the core set of methods used and goals of intervention to meet the needs of each child and his or her family.

We have created three levels so that everyone can help take down autism.  Please click on the Take Down Autism Letter to find out how you can help or visit  http://www.giving.jhu.edu/unlimited to make a donation online.

Wrestler of the Week: Mike Denver

4

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for the first week of December is Mike Denver of The College of New Jersey.  The 184 lb. Denver wrestled in a pair of events this past week, picking up a pair of big wins.  First, on Wednesday, TCNJ defeated King’s 42-3.  The feature match of the night was between Denver, ranked #4 in the latest d3wrestle.com Rankings, and Mike Reilly of King’s, the #5 ranked wrestler.  Avenging a loss from last season, Denver defeated Reilly 9-5.  On Saturday, Reilly placed first in the York Invitational.  In the finals, he defeated Alex Martocello, the #10 wrestler in the November 17th edition of the NWCA Rankings, by a score of 7-5.  The win in the finals moved Denver to 15-2 on the year, with both losses coming to Division I opponents.

Denver, a senior from Bayville, New Jersey, finished 7th at the 2010 NCAA Championships at 184 lbs.  He was the Metro Conference champ and compiled a record of 45-4 last season.  The finals on Saturday were the 100th match of his career, and he now has a record of 84-16 as a member of the Lions.  Denver was a New Jersey state qualifier for Central Regional High School before moving on to TCNJ.  Denver and the rest of the Lions are done competing for the semester and will next be seen on January 8th at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus College.

Wrestler of the Week: Emmanuel Ajagbe

3

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of Thanksgiving is Emmanuel Ajagbe of Delaware Valley College.  Delaware Valley competed in a tri meet against Elizabethtown and Kutztown last Wednesday, and Ajagbe won both of his matches against quality opponents to help Delaware Valley split the two matches.  Against Elizabethtown, Ajagbe defeated 2010 NCAA qualifier and Metro champ Tye Boyer by a 7-5 score.  With the two schools both in the same conference this year, they will likely meet again.  Boyer is currently a Contender in the d3wrestle.com Rankings.  In the second match of the day, Ajagbe helped Delaware Valley to a win against Kutztown by defeating John Paukovits 6-4.  Paukovits is currently the top ranked wrestler in the DII East Region and appears as an honorable mention in the national rankings.

Ajagbe is a 149 lb. sophomore from Bogota, New Jersey, and he was a wildcard selection to the 2010 NCAA Championships out of the Midwest Regional behind NCAA Champ Isaac Dukes.  This season, he has compiled an 11-1 record to go along with the championship at the Washington & Jefferson Open.  He is also ranked eighth at 149 lbs. in the most recent d3wrestle.com Rankings.  With his 28-9 record in 2009-2010, Ajagbe has now compiled a 39-10 career record after this past week’s competition.  Prior to joining the Aggies, Ajagbe was the 2009 New Jersey State Champion at 145 lbs.  Delaware Valley is next scheduled to compete in the Bob Quade Cyclone Open at Centenary on Sunday and then again the following Wednesday in a dual meet against new conference foe King’s College.

Wrestler of the Week: Albie McKinney

0

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the week for this last week before Thanksgiving is Albie McKinney of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  Wrestling at 125, McKinney placed third in the Auggie Brute-Adidas Open at Augsburg College this past weekend.  While McKinney’s only loss came to Division II ranked Trevor Franklin of Upper Iowa, he won matches against 2010 NCAA Division III All-Americans Josh Roberts of Augsburg and Austin Mogg of Buena Vista.  Roberts was 4th in the 2010 NCAA Championships, while Mogg was 5th.  In addition, Roberts and Mogg are the two wrestlers who defeated McKinney at the NCAA tournament in March.

McKinney, a senior from Luck, Wisconsin, is a two time WIAC champion and two time NCAA Qualifier.  He just missed placing last year, losing to Mogg in the All-America round.  He has compiled a 40-18 record so far in his two-plus years at La Crosse after transferring to the school after spending time at Harper College and Western Technical College.  In high school, the exercise sport science and physical education major was a two time state placewinner and graduated holding his school’s record for career wins.  McKinney and the rest of the Eagles are off for the holiday but come back on December 2nd for a dual meet at Platteville before hosting the Holiday Inn Express Duals on Saturday, December 4th.
