BALTIMORE, MD — The 2010 -11 Johns Hopkins Wrestling team has dedicated its season to taking down Autism.  This year the Blue Jay wrestling team has partnered with the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute to create the “Take Down Autism Program”.  This program will raise awareness of autism and allow the wrestlers to raise money for CARD with each takedown they complete.

Today the odds of a child being diagnosed with Autism is 1 in 110.  Our goal is 110 takedowns during the dual meet season.  The wrestlers will also be visiting students and volunteering their time at Kennedy Krieger Institute and local schools.

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute is a multi-faceted, multidisciplinary program for children with autism spectrum disorders and their family members. CARD combines research, clinical (assessment and intervention) services, as well as community outreach and training to help improve the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, their families, and the community who cares for them. CARD endorses a flexible approach to treatment, adjusting the core set of methods used and goals of intervention to meet the needs of each child and his or her family.

We have created three levels so that everyone can help take down autism.  Please click on the Take Down Autism Letter to find out how you can help or visit  http://www.giving.jhu.edu/unlimited to make a donation online.
