Mount Union Involved in Bus Accident

3

On their way home last night from a 25-10 victory over Ohio Northern, the Mount Union team bus was involved in an accident with a snow plow near Bucyrus, Ohio.  Daniel Gorman, the director of athletic training and an associate professor at Mount Union, was killed in the accident and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital and the lawyers for personal injury cases took special interest in this case.  Also sustaining minor injuries were Head Coach Mark Hawald, Assistant Coach Sean Dreger, and two others. A few people had the required first aid training online which is why they could cater to the minor injuries of these people.

Gorman joined Mount Union in 1985 and was a great supporter of wrestling, according to Todd Hibbs, a former Mount Union wrestler, Olivet head wrestling coach, and current Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Olivet.  “He  came to Mount Union the same year I started as a freshman, and he has always been a great supporter of the sport. His son was a high school state qualifier who went on to West Point, and he often traveled with the team.” The lawyers for car accidents practicing Little Rock area can help in terms of legality of accident cases.

More information about Daniel Gorman and Mount union is available on the Mount Union website by clicking the first link below. To get a lawyer one could go on to the Accident Reports NM online.

Wrestler of the Week: Midlands Placewinners

3

This week, a trio of wrestlers share the d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week award.  Byron Tate, John Helgerson, and Isaac Dukes each placed in the Midlands Tournament last week, giving Division III one of its best ever performances in the event.  Dukes placed 8th at 149 for Case, Helgerson was 5th at 285 for Wartburg, and Tate gave Wartburg another placewinner with a runner-up performance at 197.

149 - Dukes vs Valek (16)

Dukes got things started with a bang, defeating #3 seed Corey Jantzen of Harvard in the first round.  Jantzen was ranked 8th in Division I by InterMat at the time of the match.  Dukes went on to make the quarterfinals before eventually reaching the placing round where he medically defaulted his last two matches to place 8th.

285 - Laurent vs Helgerson (9)

Helgerson defeated the #5 seed Tucker Lane of Nebraska and the #12 seed Kyle Simonson of Iowa State to reach the quarterfinals where he fell to Ryan Flores of American.  In the consolation round, he fought his way back to the fifth place match where he defeated #3 seed (and #3 ranked!) DJ Russo of Rutgers to place 5th.  Helgerson defeated four Division I top 20 wrestlers at the event, losing only to the #2 and #4 ranked wrestlers in the nation.

197 - Tate vs Malo (6)

Tate led the Division III performers by making the finals at 197.  Coming in as the #4 seed, Tate rode four decisions to the finals, including a win over the #18 ranked Riley Orozco of Cal State-Bakersfield in the quarterfinals.  In the finals, Tate was defeated on a riding time by Matt Wilps of Pitt.  You can see Tate’s finals match this Saturday at 4pm on the Big Ten Network.  The finals will also be replayed  at 5pm on 1/13, 7pm on 1/14, and 5am on 1/15.

All three of these wrestlers made the NCAA finals last season, with Tate and Dukes winning titles, while Helgerson placed 2nd.  Each of them is currently ranked #1 in both the d3wrestle.com and NWCA Division III rankings.  Wartburg will be the #2 seed at this weekend’s NWCA National Duals, while Dukes and Case will wrestle a dual meet at Thiel College on Saturday.

Wrestler of the Week 12/13-12/19: Luke Miller

0

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week for December 13-19 is Luke Miller of Ohio Northern.  After this week, we hope to get back on a regular schedule with Wednesday postings.  Miller, wrestling at 165 lbs., was the champion at the Midwest Classic held at the University of Indianapolis.  He also recorded a fall in a dual meet against Mount St. Joseph.  At the Midwest Classic, the top-seeded Miller recorded a pair of pins and a technical fall to reach the finals.  In the final, he defeated returning Division II All-American Mike Williams of UNC-Pembroke 4-2 to take the championship.  The win moved Miller to 14-0 on the year as he wrapped up his first semester of competition.

Miller,  a senior civil engineering student from Indiana, Pennsylvania, was the 2010 NCAA 157 lb. champion and is a two time All-American.  He was 39-4 last season and is the defending OAC Wrestler of the Year.  His championship performance helped lead the Polar Bears to a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships as he placed first and freshman teammate Kyle Kwiat placed 4th.  For his career, Miller now has 116 career wins, and his next victory will tie him for third on the All-Time Ohio Northern career wins list.  The record is 133 wins, a mark he seems likely to surpass this season.  Miller and the Polar Bears next compete December 29th and 30th at the Midlands Championship at Northwestern University.

Wrestler of the Week 12/5-12/12: Chris Albright

0

We are catching up on the d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week award and will post one this morning and one this evening so the award will be caught up heading into Christmas.  This award is for the week of December 5-12 and is given to Chris Albright of York College.  Albright, a 141 lb. sophomore had two big wins for the Spartans on Saturday December 11th to help York sweep its quad with Delaware Valley, Wilkes, and Muhlenberg.  Against Wilkes, Albright tallied the only fall of the match over Ryan Wilson to help secure a 19-18 victory.  A bigger win came later in the day against Delaware Valley where Albright dominated 2010 All-American Matt Ulrich 13-0 in York’s 26-9 victory.  Those wins ran Albright’s record to 14-1, with all 14 wins getting bonus points for his team.

Albright, a sophomore from York, Pennsylvania, transferred to York College this season from Pitt.  Prior to redshirting last season, he was Pitt’s starter as a freshman at 125 lbs., compiling a 14-16 record.  In high school, wrestling at nearby Red Lion High School, Albright was a three time District Champion and placed twice in the Pennsylvania AAA state tournament.  He was also a two time finalist in the NHSCA National Tournament, taking first place after his junior season.  The criminal justice major will next compete with the Spartans January 7th and 8th at the Virginia Duals.
