Connor Joyce 141/149 County Champion and Regional/State runner-up – 126-44 career record
Christian Vallis 133 3x place winner at National Prep Championships

Season outlook:
Johns Hopkins should once again battle for a spot in the top half of the Centennial Conference standings as several returnees will team with a talented group of newcomers to form the nucleus of head coach Keith Norris’ 10th team at Homewood.

The headliner for the Blue Jays will once again be senior 125 Paul Bewak, who returns for his final season as a two-time All-American, two-time Centennial Conference champion and with a career record of 100-18. Bewak has a pair of seventh-place NCAA finishes on his resume and could challenge the Centennial Conference career record for victories (141).

Classmate Christian Salera is Johns Hopkins’ other most accomplished returnee as he has a pair of Centennial Conference runner-up finishes at 157 to his credit and is looking to break through with a trip to the NCAA Championships after a sixth-place regional showing a year ago.

Other key returning members of the team include seniors Evan Johnson (184/197) and Welles Sakmar (165), who have 60 career combined victories to their credit. In addition, juniors Joey Tilson (285) and Evan Krumheuer (133) and sophomores Alex McLaughlin (149) and Jared Forman (174) are back and should all hold down spots in the lineup. Tilson has been JHU’s main man at 285 for the last two years and has 23 wins to his credit in that time.

For the Blue Jays to remain among the Centennial Conference elite, they will need to fill three big holes in the lower half of the lineup as Ray Yagloski (133), Duncan Crystal (141) and Henry Stauber (149) graduated last May and took their 237 career wins with them.

Shaun Lally Named Head Wrestling Coach
Monday, October 20, 2014

Shaun Lally Shaun Lally, a former local high school standout and Division I wrestler, has been named Muhlenberg’s head wrestling coach.

For the last two years, Lally was the head coach at Stony Brook University, where he created the school’s first-ever collegiate competitive wrestling program through the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), an organization that provides wrestling opportunities to schools that don’t have an NCAA program. In his two years, Lally coached 12 national qualifiers and five wrestlers who earned national academic honors.

With Lally as head coach, Stony Brook won a Best of Brand Award, given by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for one of the most highly marketed wrestling programs in the country, regardless of division.
A USA Wrestling bronze certified coach, Lally was a scholarship recipient for the NCWA Leadership Academy in the summer of 2014.

Prior to Stony Brook, Lally was the head coach at Nazareth High School in Brooklyn and the junior high head coach at Port Jefferson Middle School. He also spent a year as a high school wrestling referee and volunteered with Beat the Streets youth wrestling program in Manhattan from 2009 to 2010.

A native New Yorker, Lally grew up in the Lehigh Valley. At nearby Parkland High School, he was a District XI and Northeast Regional runner-up, losing in the state tournament to a future NCAA champion and Olympic bronze medalist. In high school he was also a two-time national qualifier in Freestyle and Greco for team Pennsylvania.
Lally went on to attend and wrestle at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his bachelor’s degree in business and economics from SUNY Empire State College in 2014.

Lally and his wife, Beth, a native of Williamsport, Pa., have an 18-month-old daughter, Alexa Rose.
