Head Coach Tom Layte returns for his 8th season on the bench at MIT, and looks to again have a full lineup with six starters back from last year’s team. Conference placewinners Joe Silverman at 197 and Sean Jameson at 285 will be dropping to 184 and 197, respectively, in their bid to improve on last year’s finishes at the NEWA tournament. After a runner-up finish a year ago that left him just shy of the NCAA tournament, Silverman hopes the lower weight will have him wrestling in Iowa in March, seeking MIT’s fifth All-American award. Coach Layte has set goals of a winning record and top half finish in the 2008 NEWA tournament.

UW-Eau Claire returns 17 lettermen this year, making for good competition for several starting spots. After having no 125 for the past two years, Eau Claire should be able to fill the weight with a quality athlete for 2007-2008, Coach Parker’s 31st season at the helm.
After several years of building, Lakeland is no longer a young team. They have many wrestlers who are looking to break through on the national scene, and Coach Peter Rogers expects this to be the year. Paul Hartt, last year’s top wrestler, plans to move up to 197 for his final season.
UW-Lax will have a very young and inexperienced team with as many as 5 freshman that could break into the lineup to join a solid returning group with 2x All-American Jordan Kolinski,All-American Tim Palmer, returning champ Josh Chelf, and qualifier Dan Laurent. Their typical tough schedule includes home duals with Luther and Augsburg along with trips to Midlands and National Duals. In 2007-2008, La Crosse will be attempting to make it 11 consecutive WIAC titles.
