Wrestler of the Week: Jordan Schulte

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week is Jordan Schulte of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Schulte won all four of his matches at 165 to lead the Pointers to a pair of wins at the Border Brawl at Whitewater. He defeated Yousef Al-Ghoul of Elmhurst 10-2 in the first match of the day. He also won by fall against Trine and an 8-1 decision against Manchester. The highlight win of the day was 5-3 against James Myers of Olivet, a 2012 All-American and the #4 ranked wrestler at 165 at the time of the match.

Schulte, a senior from Mosinee, Wisconsin, is now 20-6 on the year with two of his three DIII losses to defending NCAA Champions Williams and Kulchytskyy. He finished 2nd at the Muskie Invitational, 4th at the Pointer Open, and 2nd at the Concordia Open. He is a 2x NCAA qualifier with a career record of 73-41. Stevens Point is off this weekend and returns to action February 8th with a conference dual at Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Wrestler of the Week: Reece Lefever

Reece Lefever at the Knox Duals

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for this past week is Reece Lefever of Wabash. Wrestling at 157 lbs., Lefever finished 4-0 at the Max Servies duals this past weekend to help host Wabash to a matching 4-0 team record at the event. After a pair of lopsided wins against Ohio Northern and Platteville, Lefever defeated three time NCAA qualifier Ryan Warczynski of Dubuque by a 6-1 score and finished the day with a 12-4 major decision over Joseph Atwell, a 2012 NCAA qualifier from Central.

Lefever, a sophomore from Fort Wayne, Indiana, is in his first season at Wabash after transferring from Indiana Institute of Technology. He is currently 24-2 with both losses coming in the opening weekend of the season where he finished 4th at the Concordia Open. He was the champion of the Indiana Little State tournament and was a finalist at the North Central Invitational, forfeiting to his teammate in the finals. He is currently ranked 9th in the d3wrestle.com Rankings. Lefever and the rest of the Wabash team are off this weekend before heading to the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational February 1st and 2nd.

Wrestler of the Week: Ryan Earley

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the week for this past week is Ryan Earley of Elmhurst. The Wrestler of the Week for the week before will appear later today. Wrestling at 141 lbs., Earley helped lead the Blue Jays to a second place finish at the NWCA National Duals in Illinois this past weekend. Earley finished the weekend with a 4-0 record at Elmhurst topped Wesleyan, UW-Whitewater, and Cortland before falling to the defending NCAA Champion Knights in the finals. On Saturday, Earley defeated Nick Scotto of Wesleyan 2-1 and d3wrestle.com #5 Jake Fredricksen of UW-Whitewater. In the semifinals on Saturday, Earley defeated #8 Brian Bistis 6-3 and then #4 Thomas Mirocha 8-5 in the finals. With three victories over ranked opponents, Earley has been moved to #4 in the latest d3wrestle.com and NWCA Rankings.

Earley, a senior from Wheaton, Illinois, is now 14-0 this season at 141 after spending the past two years at 149. He was one match away from the podium last year at the NCAA Championships and currently sports a 79-24 career record. He was 3rd at last year’s Great Lakes Regional, qualifying to his first NCAA Championships. Earley and the Bluejays host the Al Hanke Invitational this weekend before heading up to Whitewater for the Border Brawl Duals on the 26th.

Lots of changes this week as many top wrestlers clashed at the various events around the country. This week was a tough one to figure, and that is a great indication that there is a lot of parity near the top of many weight classes. It should make for a great NCAA Championships.
