Wrestler of the Week: Rayshawn Dixon

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Rayshawn Dixon of Ferrum. Dixon won the the 82nd Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational at 285 lbs. this past weekend, defeating the previously #1 ranked Donovan King of Olivet in the finals with a fall in the first period. Dixon used two falls, a tech fall, a decision, and a medical forfeit to take the title at the prestigious event. For his efforts, he was named ODAC Heavyweight Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season and sixth time in his career.

Dixon, a senior from Fayetteville, North Carolina, is currently 23-0 with championships at the Mount Union Invitational, Cougar Open, and Citrus Invitational to go along with his win this past weekend. He was ranked 7th in the most recent d3wrestle.com Rankings that came out before this weekend’s success. Last season, Dixon finished 3rd in the Southeast Regional to earn his first trip to the NCAA Championships. He placed 4th in the region in 2022 and has a career record of 85-24. Ferrum next competes in a pair of ODAC duals this Thursday against Roanoke and Friday against Southern Virginia.
January 31st Awards Update
The NCAA has released the latest standings in the season-long falls and tech falls race. The NCAA list has Jake Jones of Ithaca moving into the lead with 17 falls, but that list does not appear to have accounted for the prior listed leader Mitchell Arch of Case Western Reserve scoring three falls at Wheaton to get to 19 for the season. This keeps him in the lead for now. Gavin Hollingsworth of Alvernia added a pair of tech falls to extend his lead in that race and give him a new total of 17. The list below has the corrected total for Arch but no other adjustments.
As always, this list only counts matches between Division III opponents.

NCAA Awards Update – January 24th

The NCAA has updated the season-long falls and tech falls list for this week. The leader in falls remains Mitchell Arch of Case Western Reserve University. His 16 falls are tied with Timothy Glynn of RIT, but Arch is ahead on time. For tech falls, Alvernia’s Gavin Hollingsworth picked up three at the MAC Championships to pass Luke Hoerle of Stevens who was idle this weekend. Hollingsworth leads Hoerle 15-13. As a reminder, only matches against Division III opponents are used to calculate these standings.
