Arch, Hoerle lead initial season-long awards standings
The NCAA has released the first set of standings for the season-long awards for most falls and most tech falls. Mitchell Arch of Case Western Reserve University leads with 15 falls. He is tied with two other wrestlers but wins the tiebreaker based on least time. Luke Hoerle of Stevens Institute of Technology leads the tech falls list with 13, one ahead of his nearest competitor. These totals only count matches between Division III opponents. The final award for Most Dominant will have its first set of standings released later in the season when more wrestlers have met the minimum match criteria.

Wrestler of the Week: Brady Koontz

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Brady Koontz of the University of Dubuque. Koontz began his season this past weekend at the NWCA National Duals and won in all six of his team’s duals at 125 lbs. as the Spartans finished in 11th place with a 3-3 record. The highlight of his weekend was a 4-1 overtime win against two-time NCAA finalist Jacob Decatur of Baldwin Wallace. He also defeated d3wrestle.com Contenders Jalen Dunson of UW-Whitewater and Cristian Chavez of Luther.
Koontz, a grad student from Plover, Wisconsin, is completing his final semester of eligibility at Dubuque this spring. He joined the team in the second half of last season after transferring from Ohio State. He finished in third place at the Lower Midwest Regional and went on to take 7th at the NCAA Championships. Koontz has competed on multiple age-group world teams in Greco-Roman and made his senior level world team debut this past September at the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Dubuque is off this week before competing in three American Rivers Conference Duals next Saturday against Wartburg, Central, and Buena Vista.
