2016-2017 Regional Alignment

The NCAA Championships committee has released the regional alignment for the 2016-2017 season. In yet another blow against fairness, no team changed regions while every region but the West added teams. The Northeast, East, and Mideast regions each now have 19 teams, the Midwest has 17, the Central has 15, and the West remains at 11.

(note: Maranatha continues to be listed on the NCAA’s regional alignment chart for some reason even though the school no longer has a wrestling team)

  1. So pretty much no change?? Heard there was supposed to be some actual realignment, but guys the top dogs flexed their muscles and kept it the same

  2. I still don’t understand why we even have a committee deciding regional alignments. If we just allowed teams to freely change regions, and decide for themselves which region to compete in, things would even out. And this would have the added bonus of not basing regional alignment on performance from previous years (an express goal of NCAA).

  3. This would have been so simple to set up. There are 100 teams , all ya have to do is draw vertical lines on the U.S. map so there are 25 teams in 4 regions and the top 5 guys from each region go to the NCAA tournament.
