The plans for next years Cultural Exchange trip are being formulated. George Kalchev of George Tours has put together a 5 capital, 4 country trip for 2014. This trip would include Paris, France, Romania, Turkey and Bulgaria. They are hoping to have a group of 20-30 for next year’s trip.

The trip has been moved up one month to accommodate more students from the US and their summer jobs and employment.  This also works well for the countries on the tour as they are still in their competitive season trying to make club and national teams.  The trip will be a 12-13 day trip starting at the end of May and running through the first week of June.  The team will most likely assemble in New York to fly out together.  The cost of the trip right now is $3000 and a deposit of $300 will reserve that price up until the first of the year.  This price includes round-trip airfare from New York and all travel expenses, hotel, training, sightseeing, and three meals a day.  Anyone interested should contact Tim Fader at 262-472-1867 or fadert@uww.edu.  He will also be taking applications for the coaching positions for this trip. The Division III Coaches Association has provided a stipend for the head coach and assistant coach for the trip as well as an amount to make team singelets and warmups.  More information will be coming soon, and click the link at the top to see blogs from past trips.

Last year’s trip had wrestlers from Ursinsus, Johnson and Wales, Messiah, UW Whitewater, Lakeland, Heidelberg, Elizabethtown and Norwich. The team included All Americans and NCAA Qualifiers as well as guys that had not competed in college yet. They never weighed in but competed three times with anywhere from 4-8 matches on the trip.

  1. I strongly recommend this trip to every Division III coach and wrestler interested in getting better, learning about other cultures and having fun! This trip was first class from start to finish and everything in between! George Kalchev took care of every need–the food, sites, wrestling and hotels were incredible. It’s a $6,000 trip for $3,000!
