Season outlook:
Southern Maine hopes to turn things around this year and put together a winning dual meet season in the NEWA. Four New England placewinners will anchor the lineup, led by returning NCAA qualifier and NEWA champ Billy Cole. Additionally, Cinjin Goewey, Peter Gilman, and Travis Spencer all finished in the top six at the NEWA championships. Spencer knocked off 3x All-American Ryan Malo of Williams in the semifinal but ended up third in the odd system used by the NEWA to determine its champions. He will be one of the favorites again at 197. Other lineup spots could be taken by incoming freshman in a recruiting class that includes at least six state placewinners and three state champs. Southern Maine has had at least one NCAA qualifier for each of the past five years, and in 2012, they are hoping to have multiple qualifiers while adding to their All-American total.
