Season outlook:
After 37 years, Washington and Lee has a new coach. Gary Franke retired from the team at the conclusion of the 2011 season, and Nathan Shearer has moved from Heidelberg to take the reigns. He brought assistant Ryan Riggs from Heidelberg as they work to revive the Generals program. David Dennis is the team’s top wrestler, placing all three years of his career in the Centennial Conference. Sam Campbell and Eric Fessel have each shown flashes in their careers and each hopes to put it all together this season. They will have to sort out who is going which weigh class first, however. This is a young team, so the incoming freshmen will play a major role in the team’s success. Conor Duffey, a National Prep placewinner, and Matt Howell, a Florda state placewinner, are the top incoming wrestlers. 2011-2012 is the start of a new era for Division III’s southern most wrestling team.
