d3wrestle.com 2023-2024 Rankings #2

0

After the first week of competition, here is the next set of rankings. The intention this week was to make sure to remove anyone who is not currently listed on a roster. Some of those removed will likely be back in the second semester or later this season. Everyone who has competed has been ranked at the weights they have actually wrestled.

Wrestler of the Week: Josh Wilson

0

The first d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Josh Wilson of Greensboro. Wilson won the Ithaca Invitational at 141 lbs. and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Wrestling as the #2 seed, Wilson opened with a pair of falls before winning 19-4 over 7th seeded Robert Palmieri of Baldwin Wallace and 14-4 over #3 seed Noah Hunt of Penn College in the semifinals. This set up a finals match with top seeded James Rodriguez of Castleton. Rodriguez defeated Wilson in the 7th place match at last year’s NCAA Championships. This time around, Wilson scored the winning takedown in overtime to break a 1-1 deadlock and take the championship. Earlier in the week, Wilson went 2-1 at the UNC quad, losing only to the 20th ranked wrestler in Division I.

Wilson finished 8th at the 2023 NCAA Championships, 5th at the 2022 NCAA Championships, and 6th at the 2021 NWCA DIII Tournament. Last season, he became the first ODAC champion for Greensboro and was named ODAC Wrestler of the Year. He also won the Southeast Region championship and Outstanding Wrestler award. Greensboro next competes with weekend at the Appalachian State Mountaineer Open.
