Corey Meyer

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Corey Meyer of UW-Whitewater. Meyer won a pair of dual meets this past week to help the Warhawks extend their record to 6-2 on the season with conference wins over Eau Claire and Oshkosh. Against Oshkosh, Meyer won 9-1 as part of a 33-11 Warhawk win. Against Eau Claire, Whitewater prevailed 39-6, and the highlight of the match was Meyer’s 6-4 win over 2013 All-American and 5th ranked Nathaniel Behnke at 141 lbs. Meyer is now 9-5 on the season.

A redshirt sophomore from Cary, Illinois, was 17-12 last year behind 2013 NCAA qualifier Jake Fredericksen and 5-4 in 2012 in an abbreviated season. His career record is now 31-21. The Warhawks are next in action January 11th and 12th at the National Duals.

Paul Glover

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Paul Glover of Brockport. Glover won the 197 lb. title at the New Standard Invitational at York College this past weekend. The 2nd seeded Glover capped a 4-0 weekend with a 7-5 win over top seeded and #2 ranked Aaron Karns of Delaware Valley. Karns finished in 6th place at last year’s NCAA Championships. Glover’s weekend ran his season record to 11-2.

Glover, a senior from Rochester, New York, began the year at the always tough Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Invitational where he finished 2-2. Brockport is off for the holidays but returns to action to host the Brockport Invitational on January 11th.

d3wrestle.com Rankings #4 – December 10, 2013

After a busy weekend, here is a new set of rankings. Several All-Americans lost this weekend, shaking up a few weights. The team rankings are also updated. It is worth mentioning that the formula used in the team rankings is designed to predict the team standings at the NCAA tournament. Therefore, teams that finished behind other teams in tournaments, or even lost in dual meets, may appear above those teams here. This is how the NCAA Championships work. For example, Oshkosh is ranked 14th here, even though they finished behind #35 Wheaton and #25 Central at the MSOE Invitational this weekend. Based on these individual rankings, we predict that Oshkosh would outscore both of those teams at the NCAA Championships primarily on the strength 2x defending champ Nazar Kulchytskyy and current #4 Dan Schiferl. Understanding the team ranking criteria will help make sense of what you see below. Here is the team ranking formula again:

12 points for #1, 11 for #2, 10 for #3….all the way down to 3 points for #10
Contenders are worth 2 points, Honorable Mentions are worth 1 point
Not having a wrestler listed is -1 point.
