Season Outlook:
The Hawks look to have another strong year under Coach Egan as they return 4 NCAA qualifiers in Downes, Herzog, Golner and Foster. The team looks to win its fourth straight New England Championship, its fifth straight Pilgrim League Title and a Regional title. Nicholas Barbaria, Justin Cochran and Joe Albina are also returning placers in the region, taking 6th, 5th and 4th. With the Hawks graduating nine seniors this year, the goals are set high. The Hawks also return a number Academic All-Americans who look to repeat in the 2016-17 season – Nicholas Barbaria, Daniel Downes, Ty Herzog and Kyle Foster.

There have been some strong additions to the roster as New England Champion, Brett Leonard looks to make a splash at 165. New England finalist and NJ State Placer, Taylor Shay, will also look to start at 174. Chris Gural was 4th in New Jersey and will push Barbaria at 125 and Tyler Gazaway looks to do some damage at 149 as he was 3rd at Senior Nationals last year. Owen Bachelder is a 4x big school NY State Qualifier and had his senior year cut short due to injury. He will certainly help at 133 or 141 pounds. Jason Jacobi and Brayson Haas were both 5th in the PA Northeast Region and look to help at 133 and 141 pounds. Cam Altobelli was the New Hampshire state champion at 160 pounds and looks to drop to 157. Deven Shuko was 3rd in MA in only his third year of wrestling and will also add at 157. The Hawks have made some significant additions to the upper weights after the graduation of National Champion, David Welch. Saverio Salcfas (3x NJ State Qualifier) and Chris Francis (2x RI State Champion) will vie for a spot at 197 pounds and Will Farparan (NJ State Qualifier) will add depth for Kyle Foster at heavyweight.

Four 2016 NCAA qualifiers return and are looking to continue the winning trend from last season.

The 2016-17 schedule will be very challenging as the Ducks will take on 14 of the top 20 schools from last season throughout the year . Some new additions to the schedule are trips to the Roger Williams Invitational, Mount Union Duals, and the York: New Standard Invitational. Season Outlook:
Heading into the 2016-2017 season, the Muhlenberg College wrestling program continues to rise under the leadership of 3rd year coach Shaun Lally. The ascension of the program comes on the heels of a young and hungry roster with zero seniors. Departed seniors and leaders Che Chengsupanamit and Jimmy Coiley will force the young Mules to step up and fill the void. Muhlenberg’s schedule includes a return trip to Madison Square Garden for the Grapple at the Garden, a flight to the Citrus Open in Fort Lauderdale Florida, and a full slate of Centennial Conference matches and more. The Mules will also be breaking in a new and expanded wrestling facility for the 2016-2017 season. Upper-classmen Mark Gutierrez, Jake Gordon, and Ben Peck will look to make their mark on the Division III landscape and a slew of young wrestlers will also be working to break through as well. Returning assistant coach Andrew Drake and newly added assistant coach Nick Sanko will both contribute to the ascension of the wrestling program and the energy that surrounds it. Look for the Mules to make some noise in Division III this year as coach Lally and the staff will have the young Mules ready for competition.

David Dimun, Butler, Pa. (165-184)
Dan Verhovsek, Johnstown, Pa. (149-157, regional qualifier)
Will VanNorman, Wind Ridge, Pa. (285, regional qualifier)

Season Outlook:

With all 10 starters returning from last year’s team, Waynesburg University is looking to reclaim the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title. That task was made all the more difficult this past off-season, with Thomas More becoming the fourth member school that sponsors wrestling.

The Yellow Jackets will be led by its three returning PAC champions: senior Filippo Crivelli (141-149), senior Ryan Shank (184) and sophomore Jake Evans (285). Evans seemingly came out of nowhere to be arguably Waynesburg’s top performer in his first year with the team. He ended his season one win shy of qualifying for nationals out of what was a tough 285-pound weight class at the Mideast Regionals.

Juniors Tristan Buxton (125), Zach Swarrow (133), Derek Hull (157) and Landon Lohr (165) all improved noticeably as sophomores last winter and will all be looking for their first conference crowns. Current sophomores Nick Kusich (149-157) and Mike Millero (174) all made immediate impacts as freshmen.

The highlight of this year’s recruiting class is a fruitful effort to fill out depth charts at 174-197 pounds. First-year grapplers James Zeremenko, Adam Rigney, Ben Norman and Kenneth Burrs are all expected to battle for mat time and starting jobs at the upper weights.

Waynesburg looks to peak in the spring semester after it is expected to add as many as three team members from the Yellow Jacket football team, as well as some other fresh faces.

The Jackets open the 2016-17 campaign with their annual Orange/Black wrestle-offs on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Season Outlook:
Gettysburg returns most of its core from last season’s young team. Paul Triandafilou is back for his sophomore season after placing 5th in the NCAA at heavyweight and winning the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Award. Juniors Noah Malamut and Anthony Puca both missed the NCAA tournament by one match and are hoping to earn their way to La Crosse this March. Regional placewinner Quinn Merrigan moves up to 165 after two seasons at 149 and should be a contender at the East Region again this year. Conference runner-up and regional round of eight finisher Colin Kowalski should get a full season at 157 after missing the first half of last year with an injury, and he is poised for a breakout year. Senior Camden Stoops won 25 matches at 285 last season and is dropping to 197 for his final year of collegiate competition.

The incoming class is led by Anderson University transfer Dan Ebert, Pennsylvania state qualifier Colin Devlin, and New England placewinner Andrew Howard. They, along with the rest of the newcomers, will fit in around the returning starters to give Gettysburg its strongest lineup in quite a while.
