Wrestler of the Week: Brendan Gould

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Brendan Gould of Augustana. The 141 lbs. Viking placed first at the North Central Invitational and was name the event’s Outstanding Wrestler as well. The win capped a 5-0 week that included a forfeit win in a dual meet against Loras. Wrestling from the third seed, Gould defeated #2 seed Jeremy Melendez of Dubuque in the semifinals before topping Layten Binion from the host North Central 10-2 in the finals. Melendez was ranked 7th and Binion was 2nd in the latest d3wrestle.com Rankings. Gould was also named CCIW Wrestler of the Week and is now 12-6 on the year.

Gould, a junior from Davenport, Iowa, was 19-4 last year and 28-13 as a freshman. The Finance and Marketing major now has a career record of 59-23. Last season was cut short due to an injury, but Gould managed to win championships at the Platteville and North Central Invitationals. During his freshman year, Gould was the CCIW champion and won at North Central, giving him three total championships so far at that event. Gould, and the rest of the Vikings take on Cornell tonight before taking a break until the National Duals on January 5th.
