The first d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week for the 2024-2025 season is Cameron Soda of Johnson and Wales. Soda won the 141 lbs. bracket at the Ithaca Invitational, picking up five wins along the way. In the semifinals, he defeated former All-American James Rodriguez of Castleton 5-1 in overtime. In the finals, he faced defending NCAA champion Josh Wilson of Greensboro. Soda headlocked Wilson halfway through the first period of a scoreless match and eventually earned a fall near the edge. He was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the event, helping JWU to a second place team finish.
Soda is in his first year at Johnson and Wales after spending the past three seasons at Edinboro. He was named the NEWA wrestler of the week and is 5-0 with a pair of falls in this young season. JWU next competes when they host UW-Whitewater in a dual on Friday before heading to the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.
