Season Outlook:
The Penn College Wildcats approach their fifth season as an NCAA Division III program under new and full-time Head Coach, Pankil Chander. The four-year technical institution’s wrestling program will enter their first season as members of the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference and second season in the Mideast Region. The Wildcats have come one win shy of an NCAA berth in each of their four seasons and will look to reach new heights and make a trip to the national stage in 2023.

A young squad, Penn College wrestling only graduated one senior last year in Jesse Walker, who will remain in Williamsport as an Assistant Coach for the Wildcats. Returners, Noah Hunt and Patrick Snoke prepare for their second season of competition with momentum. Hunt outperformed his 12 seed at the 2022 Mideast Regional to finish fifth, and Snoke pinned 2022 NCAA qualifier, Zach Levey of Brockport in the Penn College’s Mid-February dual with the Eagles. Hunt and Snoke were both Pennsylvania state qualifiers and place-winners in high school and they welcome a first-year class that has been in similar territory.

The strong incoming class for the Wildcats are projected to make a difference immediately as 2022 189 PIAA (AA) State Champion, Isaac Cory of Montoursville will make his college debut at 184lbs, while fellow 2022 126lb PIAA (AA) State Finalist, Mark Palmer looks to add depth at the lightweights. Cory is joined by nearby District IV products, Mason Leshock, a two-time state qualifier out of Line Mountain, along with Liam Goodrich, a four time district place-winner out of Jersey Shore High School.

Penn College opens up their season on November 5th, 2022 at the Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King’s College.

Recco named head coach at Brockport

Sam Recco has been named head wrestling coach at Brockport. He takes over for Caleb Garvey who stepped down earlier this year after a short tenure. Recco spent last season as an assistant coach for Edinboro and spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons on staff at Lincoln College. He is a 2017 graduate of Edinboro and did his high school wrestling at Lyndonville High School 30 miles from Brockport.

Recco Named Brockport Head Wrestling Coach

SUNY Brockport Athletic Director Erick Hart announced the hiring of Sam Recco as the new head wrestling coach on Monday. Recco will be responsible for all aspects of Brockport’s nationally recognized wrestling program, and he will also serve as an Area Coordinator in Brockport’s Residential Life/Learning Communities.

“We’re excited to welcome Sam Recco as the new head coach of our wrestling program,” said Erick Hart. “He’s an accomplished college wrestler, a rising star in the profession, and he will be an excellent addition to our entire campus community. “

Recco, originally from Lyndonville, NY, spent the last year as an assistant coach at his alma mater of Edinboro University (Division I wrestling) where he helped guide 141-pounder Gabe Willochell to an NCAA Championship appearance. He also led multiple student-athletes to podium finishes at the MAC Conference Championships.

“Brockport has such a storied history in wrestling & I’m honored to be the next coach in charge of making sure that that trend continues,” said Sam Recco. “The Golden Eagle wrestlers are in good hands. I can’t wait to get started & representing the green & gold on & off the mat!”
