Heidelberg Preview

Heidelberg has worked its way into national prominence over the past few seasons, including a 5th place finish in the Nationa Duals in 2008, and they now go for their 4th straight OAC title.  Ranked in the top 10 last year, Heidelberg came home with two All-Americans in Ryan Fogliano and Ryan Bowers.  It was the third time in school history that Heidelberg had two All-Americans in the same season.  Though the two placewinners graduate, there is a strong core remaining for the Berg.  National qualifiers Jerrad Hoxie and Zach Mizer are back along with former Division II All-American Boomer Fechko.  Additionally, 285 Bob Brubeck defeated the All-American Bowers in a match in December, though Bowers regained the upper hand later in the year.  A number of other returning OAC placewinners are back and will be joined by the best recruiting class of Coach Miller’s tenure that includes 4x state placewinners Andrew Dinda and Lee Schumaker, Michigan state champ Kyle Hilliard, and other multiple state placewinners.

Division III Recruiting Commitments

9

Now that this list is getting pretty big, I will post information at the top here for each update
September 29th – Mount Union
September 22nd – Wartburg and Norwich

This is a list of Division III commitments taken mostly from InterMat’s list of all college commitments for this year. Keep in mind that there are no scholarships or letters of intent in Division III, so none of these commitments are actually set in stone until the wrestlers show up for orientation this fall. Additionally, some of these commitments are dated months ago and could have changed in the interim.

A large number of commitments have gone up since the May 1st deadline, so you will now need to click below to see the full Division III list.

USMMA Picks Ilaria

Greg Ilaria has been named head wrestling coach the the Merchant Marine Academy.  Ilaria spent the last three seasons as an assistant at Springfield College following his own wrestling career at The College of New Jersey where he was a 2x All-American.  Earlier this summer, the Merchant Marine Academy posted a job opening for a head coach but made no announcement about the apparent vacancy.  Since then, they have hired Ilaria to replace Tim Alger.  USMMA returns all four of its national qualifiers from last season’s Centennial Conference championship team.  Phil Greene (133), James Beshada (141), and Eric Vincent (197) return to defend their conference titles, and Dan Twito (149) was the Centennial wildcard.  See the release below.
