Season Outlook:
In year five of the program, the Scots have a number of upperclassmen with regional placement and national tournament experience in the upper weights. Shawn Brewer, Jamie Jakes and Trevor Maresh have all competed at NCAAs, and Caleb Huff was 4th at the Midwest Regional in 2015. There’s also depth, as several sophomores, juniors and seniors could provide breakout performances in a new season. This group has high goals both individually and as a team. Overall results may depend upon the leadership that those upperclassmen provide for the younger teammates in the lightweights. A tough schedule that will likely include several duals against the nation’s top ten squads could prepare the youthful lightweights for an end-of-season run with those veterans up top. Also, on-campus construction has begun on a new facility, and the Scots are hopeful of being a perennial contender in the always tough Midwest Regional.

Two time NCAA Division III Coach of the Year and four time WIAC Coach of the Year Tim Fader has been selected as the next head wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Fader returns to the head coaching ranks after a season as an assistant at Wheaton. Fader has previously coached at WIAC schools La Crosse and Whitewater, and in his most recent season as a head coach led Whitewater to an NCAA runner-up finish. Read this post from July about the circumstances and aftermath of his departure from Whitewater after the 2014 season.

Blugolds Hire Four-Time WIAC Coach of the Year

Sep 03, 2015
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Tim Fader, a four-time WIAC Coach of the Year, will take the helm as head coach of the University Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team, announced by athletic director Dan Schumacher today.

Fader was most recently the assistant wresting coach at Wheaton College, but he is no stranger to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Fader spent 10 years as the head coach at UW-Whitewater from 2004-14 and was the head coach for six years at UW-La Crosse (1998-2004).

“We are excited to add Coach Fader to our staff,” said Schumacher. “He has established himself as one of the top coaches in the country and we are fortunate to bring someone like him to campus. I look forward to working with Coach Fader to build a championship wrestling program.”

In his time in the WIAC, Fader was named WIAC Coach of the Year four times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2014) and National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coach of the Year twice (2001, 2012).

“Tim Fader represents the gold standard of excellence in coaching,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “He has demonstrated a history of an education-based philosophy and his number one priority is helping his student-athletes reach their potential on and off the mat.”

The 2014 Division III Coach of the Year has coached 42 All-Americans and 49 Scholastic All-Americans. Fader led the UW-La Crosse to six Top 10 finishes including a National Dual Meet Championship in 2000. With UW-Whitewater, he tallied four top 12 finishes including a third place finish in 2013 and runner-up in 2014.

“Fader is very thorough and leaves no stone unturned,” said former assistant coach and 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Peterson. “He wants a winning team and will build young men; from recruiting to fundraising to training, he will make UW-Eau Claire wrestling known. I don’t know anyone that works harder than Tim Fader.”

Fader wrestled collegiately at Augustana College (Ill.), where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance-Business Administration. He earned his master’s degree in Sports Administration from UW-La Crosse in 1997. At Augustana, Fader was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American and was twice named Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

“I am really impressed with UW-Eau Claire,” said Fader. “The supportive community, beautiful campus and just the energy you feel from this inviting, vibrant area is amazing. I’ve spoken with alums and past and present coaches and they all loved their experience which makes me excited to be a Blugold.

“I want to thank Dan Schumacher and Chancellor James Schmidt for this opportunity. Dan has a sincere excitement for this department and university and I’m excited to be a part of his vision.”

Fader will begin his coaching duties September 15 as he will be working with USA Wrestling at the Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada beginning September 5.

Burlingame steps down from head wrestling post

Aug 21, 2015
Manchester University Director of Athletics Rick Espeset announced this week that head wrestling coach Matt Burlingame has stepped down.

Burlingame led the Spartans’ program for the past nine seasons after serving as an assistant to long-time head coach and athletic director Tom Jarman. While at MU, he was on the staff which led the program to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships in 2006-07. Additionally, two of the wrestlers he mentored as a head coach qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships with one becoming the program’s 22nd All-American.

Burlingame recently accepted a position as a head wrestling coach and biology teacher at Whitko High School.

“This was an extremely tough decision,” Burlingame said. “My family and I have always thought of Manchester University as home. I’ll miss the daily interaction with faculty and staff as well as being able to work with the many wonderful young men who came through the Spartans’ wrestling program during my time.”

“We’ll miss Matt’s strong leadership and positive personality on and off the mat,” Espeset said. “He did a first-class job mentoring so many student-athletes to become well-rounded individuals which is something that is very important to the university. We wish him all the best as he and his family move on to a new path.”

Carlos Dolmo Named Hunter College Wrestling Coach

8/21/2015 9:00 AM
New York, NY – Director of Athletics Recreation and Intramurals, Terry Wansart, has announced the hiring of Carlos Dolmo as the new Head Coach of Hunter’s wrestling team. Dolmo brings over 15 years of experience with him as both an athlete and coach.

Dolmo has been the head coach at Yeshiva High School and the assistant coach at Yeshiva University since 1999. On the high school level, he was responsible for the selection process of incoming athletes, managing the support staff, promoting the sport to school officials and scheduling. Additionally, he instituted competitions with non-parochial high schools; the first of its kind for Yeshiva students. He also created a parent organization to provide parents fluency in understanding wrestling techniques and terminology in order to help them support their child better and understand the sport.

On the collegiate level, as an assistant coach, he specialized in teaching double and single leg takedowns, knee picks and firemen’s carry. He ran practice three times per week and focused not only on the physical aspects of the sport, but enforced the mental edge of wrestling as well by simulating meet scenarios to reinforce quick decision making and maneuverability.

A competitor himself, Dolmo has appeared in dozens of regional, national and international competitions including the World Championships, Empire State Games, USA and World Beach Championships, and USA Sombo National Championships where he has numerous gold, silver and bronze medals to his name. His level of competition as both a collegiate athlete as well as his post-collegiate career has led him to meets in Montenegro, Albania, Turkey, Puerto Rico and all over the United States.

As a collegiate wrestler, he was All-State in the 285 pound division, an All-American in the 197 lb weight class, and two-time national JUCO qualifier. Professionally, he was named Coach of the Year three times and led the Yeshiva High School wrestling team to the team championship on three occasions.

The Bronx resident also acts as a college liaison, mentoring inner city high school students with financial aid applications, serving as a guardian on visits, and mediator between the college and administration and parents who do not speak fluent English.

Dolmo earned his associates degree in applied sciences from SUNY Cobleskill and then earned a bachelor’s of arts with a concentration in accounting from SUNY Oswego in May of 1999. He currently resides in the Bronx.
