Wrestler of the Week: Jared Myhrberg

The first d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for 2010-2011 is Jared Myhrberg of Cortland.  Wrestling in the 197 lb. class, Myhrberg, the fourth seed, won the Ithaca Invitational this past weeked, defeating the #1, #2, and #5 seeds in the process of taking the championship.  In the quarterfinals, Myhrberg downed #5 Vincent Termini of Stevens.  In the semifinals, he won by fall in just 1:14 over 2010 184 lb. NCAA runner-up Brennan Ward of Johnson & Wales.  This moved him into the finals against teammate and #5 ranked Carl Korpi where Myhrberg was victorious with a 3-2 decision.

Myhrberg, a red shirt sophomore from Queensbury, New York, is now 4-0 on the year after posting a 17-13 record during his freshman campaign at 184 lbs.  He also placed fourth in the Empire Conference championships in 2010 at 184 lbs to go along with tournament placings at RIT and the New York State Intercollegiate Tournament.  Prior to his time at Cortland, the Physical Education major was a New York state placewinner in high school before spending one year at a local community college.  As he settles into his new weight class, it will be interesting to see how Cortland again deals with having two national caliber wrestlers at 197.  Myhrberg and Cortland next take to the mats on Saturday at the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes University.
