Wrestler of the Week: TJ Wunnicke

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week is TJ Wunnicke of UW-Platteville. In his first action of the new year, Wunnicke led the Pioneers to a 2-3 record at the Max Servies Duals at Wabash. During the event, Wunnicke recorded five first period falls in a total time of 7:53. The fastest of these five falls came in just 33 seconds against 2011 NCAA Qualifier Kalen Greiner of Central. Those five falls ran Wunnicke’s season record to 22-3.

Wunnicke is a junior in his first season with the Pioneers. He previously wrestled for Northern Illinois University and was a two time Wisconsin state champion in high school while also finishing 4th at the NHSCA Senior Nationals. The Dodgeville, Wisconsin, native is currently ranked 2nd at 133 lbs. in the NWCA Rankings that were released this week. He also has the most falls in Division III with 18 of his 22 victories coming by pin. Wunnicke and his teammates are wrestling today and tomorrow in the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational.
