The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Eric Twohey of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Twohey won the WIAC Championship this past weekend at 197 lbs., winning in the finals in overtime over #1 ranked returning NCAA runner-up Shane Siefert of Whitewater 4-2. He also recorded a pair of falls in the first two rounds of the tournament. Earlier in the week, Twohey won 5-1 over Matt Hechsel of Augsburg, a 2013 All-American and 2014 national qualifier.
Twohey, a senior from Stewartsville, Minnesota, is currently 24-1 on the year. His lone loss was to Siefert in a dual meet, a loss he avenged this past weekend. He finished 8th at last season’s NCAA Championships at 184 lbs. for his first All-American award. His career record is now 88-25, and he won titles at the Auggie-Adidas Open and the WIAC Championships. His win over Siefert has elevated him to the #1 ranking in today’s d3wrestle.com Individual Rankings. This week, he was also named the WIAC Max Sparger Wrestling Scholar Athlete in recognition of his wrestling accomplishments and 3.96 GPA. Twohey and the rest of the Eagles will next compete at the Midwest Regional at Wabash on Saturday, February 28th.
