Wrestler of the Week: Blaine Woszczak

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week is Blaine Woszczak of Ithaca.  This past week, Woszczak defeated two time 141 lb. defending champion Minga Batsukh of St. John’s and last year’s 149 lb. runner-up Tony Valek of Augsburg, along with #7 ranked Jacob Groth of Wartburg, to help the Bombers to a fourth place finish at the NWCA National Duals.  For his efforts, Woszczak was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the event.

His wins this weekend have moved Woszczak, a senior management major from Wall, New Jersey, up to the #2 spot in the latest d3wrestle.com Rankings at 149 lbs.  Wosczak is a three time NCAA Qualifier and has placed fourth in each of the last two years at 149 lbs.  Last season, he became the first ever Ithaca wrestler to reach 100 wins during his junior year, and his current career record of 121-34 puts him just seven wins shy of the all time Ithaca victories record.  This year, he is 21-2 and aiming to become a three time All-American and Ithaca’s first NCAA Champion since 2002.  Woszczak and Ithaca are idle this weekend, but they return to action January 22nd and 23rd at the New York State Collegiate Championships hosted by Binghamton.
