U23 Nationals Results
Ryan Epps was the top DIII finisher at the U23 Championships this past weekend. he finished in 2nd place at 77kg, dropping both matches in the best of three finals to earn an alternate spot for the upcoming U23 World Championships. Guy Patron finished in 3rd place at 97kg, finishing 2-1 on the day, and Tyler Hannah, another Duhawk, ended up in 4th place at 87kg. Coe wrestlers Ryan Schott (7th at 87) and Kaleb Reeves (4th at 130) placed as well. Reeves is also qualified for the senior world team trials later this year. Three other DIII entries placed 7th, but all three had forfeits in the 7th place match and did not win a contested match.
No DIII wrestlers placed in freestyle, though Eron Haynes got shout out on the USA Wrestling website after defeating 2021 DI All-American Michael McGee of Arizona State 16-6. Hayes went down 6-0 before reeling off 16 in a row for the win. See the match here (FloPro required).
