Watson-Powell Wrestling

Robert Watson-Powell has been named head coach at New England College. Watson-Powell spent last season recruiting for Iowa Wesleyan’s inaugural season, and he returns to the Henniker, New Hampshire, school where he was a graduate assistant prior to his time in Iowa.

During the 2019-2020 season, he was the men’s and women’s head coach at Iowa Wesleyan. Earlier this spring, Watson-Powell was announced as the women’s head coach at IWU when Shawn Contos joined the school as the men’s coach. With Watson-Powell’s departure for New England College, Contos has assumed control of both teams at Iowa Wesleyan.

Powell competed for Muskingum University and has also coached at the high school level at Kenston and Willard in Ohio. He replaces John Archambeau who launched the team in 2016. New England College qualified one wrestler to the 2020 NCAA Championships.
