NWCA National Duals Thursday & Friday

0

The original field of 24 has been pared down to 15 (as of 1:30pm Wednesday), as teams have dropped out for COVID-related reasons. The field is still tough with NWCA’s #1 (Coe), #3 (UW-La Crosse), #4 (North Central), #6 (Baldwin Wallace), #8 (Wabash), and #10 (Johnson & Wales) dual teams in the bracket (Dec. 29 Rankings). Wartburg and Augsburg were both set to compete before dropping out, and they had combined for all 19 of the previous National Duals titles. The 20th edition of the event will have a new champion outside of the two perennial powers.

First Round Matchups
Coe vs. Mount St. Joseph
Averett vs. RIT
Wabash vs. Concordia Moorhead
Dubuque vs. Baldwin Wallace
North Central (Bye)
Olivet vs. Johnson & Wales
Millikin vs. Springfield
UW-La Crosse vs. Adrian

Potential Site Downtime

0

d3wrestle.com has been using the same server and hosting service since its inception in 2007. I was informed recently that the old hosting service will no longer be available as of January 1st, 2022. This will necessitate moving the site to a different server and will likely result in some site downtime on January 1st for an as yet undetermined amount of time. I am not enough of a technical expert to promise everything will go smoothly, but my hope is that I can restore the site sometime that day. Keep an eye on the d3wrestle.com Twitter account for updates, and I will see you in 2022!

Also,a small DIII contingent competed in the Matmen Invitational. Aurora, North Central, and Wheaton sent a few wrestlers. Cody Baldridge of North Central is in the top 12 at 197, while North Central assistant and former UW-La Crosse wrestler Grant Zamin is in the top 12 at 157. Both will determine their final placement today.

HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College Director of Athletics Dave DeCew has announced today the hiring of Ray DeRosa as the interim head wrestling coach.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce Ray DeRosa as our Interim Head Wrestling Coach, especially since it is not an easy time to be making a transition in leadership,” said Dave DeCew. Ray’s experience, knowledge, and professionalism will serve our department well. His desire to develop and mentor the student-athletes is something we know will continue to push our program and the individual competitors forward.”

Robbie Precin

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Robbie Precin of North Central. Precin helped lead his team to a 3-0 record at the Desert Duals on Sunday in Las Vegas. In the highlight dual of the event, #1 North Central defeated #2 Wartburg 21-14, and the #1 ranked Precin contributed an 8-5 decision at 133 lbs. over #3 ranked Joe Pins, helping the Cardinals to their first win ever over the Knights. Precin added a pair of major decisions against Buena Vista and Alvernia to wrap up his day.

Precin, a junior from Orland Park, Illinois, is now 20-0 on the season with titles at Stevens Point, Concordia, and North Central. Last season, he finished in 2nd place at the NWCA DIII Championships. In 2020, he qualified for the canceled NCAA Championships. His career record is now 68-2. Next up for North Central is the Midlands on December 29th and the National Duals on January 6th.
