The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Ben Sarasin of the University of Chicago. Sarasin won the MSOE Invitational this past weekend where he won five matches in a at 174 row to secure the title. In the semifinals, he defeated 2020 NCAA qualifier and #8 ranked Evan Lawrence of UW-Eau Claire 11-4. In the finals, Sarasin matched up with #2 ranked Solomon Nielsen of Augsburg. Nielsen was second at the NWCA Championships last season and qualified for the 2019 and 2020 NCAA Championships. Sarasin came out on top of a 6-5 decision, scoring the winning escape with about a minute left in the match.
Sarasin, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is 16-0 on the year with tournament titles at UW-Platteville, Trine, Coe, and MSOE. He currently has a 74-9 career record and has qualified twice for the NCAA Championships. In 2019, he finished seventh at 174, and in 2020, he was seeded 5th at 184 at the canceled championships. Heading into last weekend, he was ranked 3rd at 174 lbs. Chicago is off until next weekend when they take on UW-Oshkosh on Thursday and have a tri with Wheaton and Aurora on Saturday.
Note: a previous version of the rankings went up that missed an important result. Those results have now been considered, and the rankings have been updated.
The season has gone on long enough that only wrestlers who have competed will appear in the rankings from now on. Athletes will continue to only appear at the weights where they have actually competed.
Also, note that for this season, the wrestlers in the Contender and Honorable Mention tiers are listed in alphabetical order by name, and their relative position is reflective of nothing else.

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Brett Kaliner of Stevens Institute of Technology. Kaliner won the 149 lbs. bracket at the Concordia Wisconsin Open on Saturday. The top seed in the bracket, Kaliner defeated a pair of Wartburg All-Americans in the semifinals and finals. After a pair of tech falls, he defeated Brady Fritz of Wartburg 4-2 in the semifinals. This earned the #1 ranked Kaliner a matchup with #2 ranked Kristian Rumph in the finals. The two traded takedowns early, but Kaliner was able to secure a second takedown and work for the fall near the end of the first period. He was named Outstanding Wrestler for his performance.
Kaliner, a fifth year senior, has finished 2nd and 3rd in the NCAA Championships and was 3rd in last year’s NWCA DIII Championships. He is now 9-0 on the year and retains his #1 ranking. Stevens next competes tomorrow in duals against UW-Eau Claire and Augsburg.
Now that teams have begun to compete, freshmen and non-DIII transfers will start to appear in the rankings. Wrestlers can still appear in this set of rankings if they have not wrestled yet, but that will not continue indefinitely. Finally, this set of rankings does not include the OAC duals that happened last night.
