What happened to Joe Phlug, didn’t see him in the conference tournament results, anyone know why he didnt wrestle?
This is such an awesome web site. We don’t have to search the web. Everything is in one place. Thanks for all your hard work!
Apparently Phlug could not get medical clearence. Story was that he had a bulging disk in his neck or back and the Doc wouldn’t let him go.
What happpened to Wartburg’s Mckray at 141? didnt see him on the list of qualifiers
Apparently he was “beat out” by Coach Kelly’s brother Matt???? My question is, how do you bench somebody who has been ranked #2 most of the year???
Watcher, I have to agree with you. There should be some point in the season where a varsity spot is secured. Interestingly, I believe it was Matt Kelly’s older brother (maybe cousin) who was beat out by teammate Dustin Hinchberger before nationals. Hinch then went on to win nationals that year and twice more.
Wartburg has always had returning all americans not make the line up the following year. The thing is you never know what d1 transfer might be in line to go there. They have a lot of talent in the room as well. Another thing that wartburg and augsburg take advantage of is the “greyshirt year” where they have some top guys only take 9 credit hours a semester so they are not considered full time. This is the d3 answer to the redshirt year. They have had some studs do this in the past.
