Dubuque Preview

Jon McGovern, like many of the coaches in DIII, has been steadily working to improve the competitiveness of his team.  Doing so in the Iowa Conference is a tall order, but it’s one the Dubuque squad has been up for.  Josh Terrell became the first All-American in 18 years for Dubuqe when the Northern Illinois transfer finished fourth at the 2008 NCAA Championships.  Evan Brown joined his teammate at the tournament, but he fell one match short of the podium.  Both return, however, and will be joined by 26 match winner and fellow captain Matt Wonderlin.  Wonderlin sustained an injury early in the IIAC tournament and did not wrestle again, but he had appeared in the national rankings during the season.  Dubuque lost little to graduation and brought in 23 freshmen, so the battle for open lineup spots should be fierce as the team attempts to climb the standings in the nation’s toughest conference.
