A pair of wrestlers with DIII connections will be competing in tomorrow’s Greco-Roman Phase II trials as the non-Olympic weight of 80kg. 2013 184 lbs. NCAA Champion Joe Rau, former of Elmhurst, will be the #5 seed and qualified by winning the University National championship at 85kg. 2014 174 lbs. runner-up Anthony Bonaventura of Waynesburg is unseeded and qualified via his top three finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships. The tournament begins at 9:00am Central time on Tuesday the 22nd in the Fargodome. The matches can be viewed live via a FloPro subscription.
Bonaventura is the third Division III athlete to compete in the trials based on his finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Messiah’s Lucas Malmberg and Kaleb Loht both competed last month in Daytona Beach. Augsburg’s Mike Fuenffinger was the champion at the Northern Plains Regional and thus qualified via Greco-Roman competition, but he also would have qualified based on his NCAA Championship in March.
