Next up is the always tough 149 lb. class.  Pflug was the 157 champ in 2006 while taking 3rd at 149 last season.  Osborn may move up to 149 as the defending 141 lb. champ.  Naig was the runner up at this weight in 2006 before missing last season.  He is expected to be back this year, however.  The notable newcomers are a pair of 3x state champs in Pyle from Kansas (Luther) and Lahar from Michigan (Olivet).

  1. Mercer (Coe) is tuff. He beat Chambers (UW-Platt) who got 4th at Nationals before he jumped up to wrestle 149 the rest of the year. He was also a NQ in 2006.

  2. Did Ooton have a medical redshirt? Brockport called him a senior this year, and he’s been in college for four years, and didn’t redshirt at VT.

  3. I’m not so sure about Shank being ranked 6th after going 1-1 at nationals and qualifing from a very weak Centennial conference 149lb. bracket.

  4. Frias from Lakeland also has a win over Reid from UWW, but will most likely be moving up to 157, expect University of Wisconsin transfer Ben Chapman (WI state champ ’04) to step in and do big things.

  5. Steve Hult is back at New York University. He is a two time conference champ and 2x national qualifier missing the all-american round twice. Look for him this year. I believe he deserves the top 8.
