Metro Preseason Rankings October 19, 2009

Note: Metro Rankings only include wrestlers who have competed so far.  The d3wrestle.com rankings have primarily used the weights at which the wrestlers have competed, even if it has been rumored or reported that a wrestler will be going to the next weight down.  This ranking may be a bit messy as all teams have not yet started, and nobody is quite in midseason form.  This causes some upsets that one might not expect.  This ranking has tried to strike a balance between a wrestlers body of work and recent performance in the first two weeks.  Wrestlers who have previously been All-Americans and NCAA qualifiers may appear over wrestlers who have defeated them as a result of this consideration.  As the season gets further underway, these things will sort themselves out.

  1. You had Matt Olsen MSOE 184 listed last week as 15th. He wins the 184# wt class at the Knox tourn and you move him down to 21st? He did not give up a take-down and you have to wrestlers he beat above him. Whats up?

  2. I know that you said that there are upsets that might not happen but sander from coe beat some studs from d1 and is ranked 7th I feel he should be ranked higher 3 probably even tho ranking don’t matter he did beat some studs

  3. Sander still didn’t beat all of the guys above him who all finished at the national tournament.

Olsen was not 15th in the first ranking as the first 10 are actually ranked and the next two groups are roughly organized…Olsen is still listed and there have been a lot of people moving into the 184lb. weight class since the first ranking including All American: Tyler Burkle, National Qualifier Corbin Semple, and National Qualifier Mike Reilly.

As far as anyone that Olsen has defeated being listed above him, I don’t see anything that has been reported that would reflect that. No one at the Knox tournament is listed above him and if he defeated someone at the Lakeland duals that is listed higher, it has not been reported on any of the teams websites.

  4. I’m thinking Wake from Oneonta should have stayed top 10! His only d3 loss is to Reilly from Kings. Both of these guys were national qualifiers last year. However, nice job for the most part!

  5. These are only rankings and it’s hard to do,especially this early in the season. It’s fun to follow them all season long and see the changes. As many out there know it’s what happens at the end of the season on the mat that matters, not where you are ranked. Last season saw seeds of #8, #6, and 2 #4’s win National Championships.

  6. Happy Thanksgiving all! This year I’m thankful for being better than I’m given credit for in either of these sets of rankings. Everyone have a good holiday season.
