Nothing against Marty Nichols for getting Coach of the Year in the Empire Conference because Ithaca was clearly the best Team there. The point being the funds that Ithaca has at it’s disposal compared to the State Schools isn’t even close. With that line-up I think I could’ve gotten Coach of the Year. Ithaca is the Empires Wartburg.
I’m counting on Ithaca and the other wrestlers to get the Empire Conference the Wild Card births they deserve. VERY surprised Cohen at 125 from Ithaca didn’t get the Wild Card. Some bad politics in that meeting. To the one Ref that really stunk, go back to HS matches! I usually cut the Refs some slack,it’s a tough job. This guy was BAD! Saw the IIAC Tourney and the Empire Conference has to prove me right that Iowa is sending too many wrestlers. It’s the weakest I’ve seen the IIAC as a whole ever. Wartburg of course stands out and should be a big IIAC point getter. If the Empire Conference doesn’t come through then I’m wrong.
I dont understand what you mean about money at Ithaca coaches disposal. if you are talking about financial aid given to wrestlers i would bet the suny schools are more affordable even if ithaca kids got 75% of their tuition paid. which is highly doubtful. i dont know anything about Ithaca’s program. other than they are consistently good. I dont remember them getting any transfers in out of no where. to finish of their degrees either. please feel free to correct me if im wrong. just going off memory.
who has Cohen beaten that would warrent him getting a wildcard OVER one of the guys who did get the wildcard? Cohen is listed as the first alternate. What politics?
It comes down to the fact that Ithaca can accept many of the kids with low grades that can’t get into state schools and there budget being a private school ia about double. How does Marc Collins get skip over a wc or even an alternate spot. He has beaten every one has lost to minus two people who were both qualifiers. At the empires he beat the one three and fours seeds.
Yup,Collins had a good Tourney. Lost early and never gave up. Wrestled back tough to get Third and finished getting a true 2nd place. Very impressive comeback. I obviously agree with “Cool Guy” about Ithaca’s budget also compared to a State School. Ithaca has the luxury of attracting out of State Athletes more than the State Schools. It’s a great School and prestigious. I never said anything about transfers going there to finish.
Ithaca has a transfer from Kentucky I believe.
If there are any admins out there reading this: the link for the team scores on the great lakes regional actually goes to the brackets for empire.
Stierly, Brennan, both Penrees, Bloss are all transfers. woczack, ecker, preist, sanko, stierly, all PA. Also, I’m sure having the top D-1 program in the country in your back yard doesn’t hurt.
Rispoli shouldve deffenily got one if they base it on the whole season like they should if im looking at who he beat correctly
Congratulations to The Springfield College Pride for bringing home their first New England WRESTLING title since 2006…I had the pleasure to watch these coaches and young men persevere over the last 4 years as they worked to ‘reclaim’ New England dominance.
A special ‘shout-out’ to BIG RON – ‘THE CLOSER’ …’THE SANDMAN’ FUSCO for taking home the league title at 285……GREAT JOB!!! and best of luck at nationals…..also congrats to JOE GRIPPI ….a real tough kid from my home state, NEW YORK …you make the EMPIRE state and SECTION 1 proud…..you are a GAMER and always you always find a way to get it done….
I know how difficult it is for the selection of WILD CARDS by the powers to be and someone is always disappointed….. but in my mind if there is anyone deserving it’s SPRINGFIELD’S 165 POUNDRER, JOHN ARCHIMBEAU, SENIOR CAPTAIN; a great young man and MY HERO because he served our country this past offseason in AFGANISTAN as a member of the NATIONAL GUARD….I realize he took 3rd yesterday but he’s had some big wins this season and he could definitely be a factor in Wisconsin next week…..BEST OF LUCK ARCHIE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY….
I’d like to also congratulate and give my best to SENIOR EDDIE GIRON – CO-CAPTAIN of the PRIDE….You are a true leader and a warrior…I know how difficult it was for you to ‘gut -it- out’ this weekend…also good luck and congrats to SENIOR STEVE FLATHERS….
To Senior, DAN’THE MEAT MAN’ ATTICKSON… You are not forgotton!!!….I know the shoulder injury has ‘slowed you down’ just a bit but your story is remarkable in participating in college wrestling after being a member of the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE Basketball Team!!! Good Luck ..I know you will be successful…..
To all of the New England Champions and Wildcard entries….GREAT JOB!! GOOD LUCK AND REPRESENT….
To the SPRINGFIELD WRESTLING COACHES….CONGRATS AS WELL…..you have a very difficult job balancing the importance of the MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT….to COACH HOLDER; a very special individual…I WISH YOU WELL IN ALL OF YOUR ENDEAVORS..keep your nose in the books …IT WILL PAYOFF….YOU ARE A GOOD MAN!!!
TO B….I LOVE YOU MAN….
way to clog the forum. new england wrestling is still new england wrestling. it’s like junior high in PA.
What an unfortunate choice for OAC wildcard. FAIL!
Scavuzzo from Balwin Wallace should get a bid under the new system to fill a weight class at 174. Though wrestling up from 165 Ohio OW Luke Miller lost to Scavuzzo 6-1. Scavuzzo lost in the Ohio Finals 4-3 to the #1 Ranked wrestler in the Country.
I think the OAC enjoys shooting itself in the foot.
I stand corrected. where did those guys transfer in from.
At 125, Alvanos from Wesleyan needs to get at-large bid. Bates from Bridgewater at 174 too.
NEWA getting 14 qualifiers is ridiculous. Brockport takes 4th in the Empire Conference and would win the NEWA. Yet the Empire only gets 15. Brockport won the Springfield tourney in November, even while missing 3 starters and injury defaulting 2 weights.
I hope Rispoli gets called to nationals at 157 he has beaten some of the qualifiers and only has 2 D3 loses (Brennon and Sterling).
the amount of wildcards each conference recieves is based on the amount of AA’s that have over the last three years. It’s not just handed out without thought behind it. IIAC I believe has 30-40 qualifiers.
What happened with Saliba (197) from York. He had great season going but didn’t wrestle in Metros. Was he injured?
saliba lost the wrestle off.
Wrestle offs prior to the conference championships? Looks like the team lost out on that one. With the wild card births Saliba was almost a lock for the NCAA’s.
saliba wouldn’t have gotten 1st or true 2nd. from seeing all the 197’s wrestle all year, York didn’t lose out on anything.
Many teams hold wrestle-offs for the conference tourny. it’s the ethical thing to do for D3.
this isn’t iowa state or cornell.. it’s division III wrestling. the spot was his to lose. i don’t care if the wrestle off was the day of the tournament… if you’re planning on going to nationals, you better at least beat the kids on your team.
to Actually….Woscazak (Ithaca)is a Jersey kid, not PA. Wall, I believe.
