This weight, as much as any other, almost seems like a foregone conclusion for the top spot. Tate is going for his third title. He has not lost to a DIII opponent in two years, and he has placed at the Midlands twice. That said, nobody thought Tate himself had a chance to win the 2010 championship with both finalists back at his weight, so anything is possible. Myhrberg is undefeated, and Baxter has been able to raise his game at the NCAA championships in the past, though he did lose an overtime match to Faber of Wheaton in the regional semifinal.
Latella and Johnson are the other two returning All-Americans, though each has had a rocky road to the tournament. Latella did not start competing until January and started off with some bad losses before righting the ship, though he did also lose to Meaney. Johnson is only in the tournament as an injury replacement for Burkle of Coe at 285. Schmitz returns as well and was 4th at the Great Lakes, though he has split with region champ Baus. Mosquera won the Centennial for a second time and is athletic, if often fragile.
There seem to be a stratification in the talent level at this weight with a significant favorite, a group of contenders, and a larger group of wrestlers with little chance to place. Surprises happen, like Mulligan and Johnson placing here last year, but it seems like the seeding has a good chance to hold here.
THE BEST WRESTLING WILL BE IN THE BACK BRACKETS FOR THE WRESTLERS TO STAY ALIVE IN TOURMENT. THE FRONT WILL BE MORE BORING TO WATCH, THE PLACING WILL NOT BE N THE ORDER IN THE TOP EIGHT. BECAUSE SOME OF THE CONTENDER ARE MATCHED UP GOOD, WITH THE YOP EIGHT WRESTLERS IN THIS GROUP, WITH TATE COMING OUT ON TOP!!!
TATE HAVE A VERY FUNKY STYLE OF WRESTLING, THAT IS NOT MATCH WITH ANYBODY IN HIS BRACKET. HE BRING POWER N STYLE TO A LEVEL THAT IS NOT MATCH BYE THE OTHER WRESTLERS N THE TOURMENT, WITH THE MISSION OF HOPING TO WIN HIS THREE TITLE AND WARTBURG NINETH TITLE,AND THIS SECOND TEAM, TITLE THAT IS A MISSION POSSIBLE.
Hey white knight, you spell like a 3rd grader! Did you graduate from Wartburg?
Tate has no style, he has power, end of story. that’s why Honeycutt pinned him in :45 sec. He matched the power, and was clearly the better technical wrestler. also, “like” john’s comment 🙂
I also “like” john’s comment; why the CAPS lock? I do agree with you on part of your first comment Whiteknight however with the top 8 not going in order. Tate can be beat, as spladleking said with the Honecutt reference (twice beaten). Anything can happen and I’m looking forward to this weight class.
Paul Glover is the real deal!
Faber is a stud. Watch him upset Tate in the first round.
Also “like” John’s comment. White Knight are you sure mom and dad know you’re on the computer? Are you sure?
Ok to all y’all haters and non-Wartburg fans, the truth will be shown tomorrow. To everyone who commented to me, the records showing Honeycut pinned Tate means nothing. Honeycut is a D1 red-shirt wrestler, and he is 25 years old. He started in elementary years, so, yes he is experienced. Tate started in high school, and has shown himself to be a very impressive, and impeccable wrestler. Not saying Tate can’t be beat, but Honeycut has lost, too. Tate has been challenged throughout all divisions. oh, I almost forgot, thanks for the wonderful compliments on my writing skills. P.S. Love all my haters!
Should have quit while you were ahead white knight! now you are using incorrect punctuations… I don’t think anyone is doubting Tate’s ability he is obviously one of the most dominate D3 wrestlers in history… And I would be extremely shocked to see him lose in this tournament… Although anything is possible it’s nationals after all! Tate is a fierce competitor on the mat and a super nice guy off the mat. I had the “privilege” to wrestle him a few times in my career and have met few people that can turn it on and off like Tate, I never would have guessed someone so mean on the mat was such a nice guy off it! Good luck to Tate on his journey for a 3rd title and to all the competitors trying to dethrone him!!! Settle it on the mat!
I think “dw” is spot on. Faber is a stud. But probably not as much of a stud as dw.
haha “jt” and “dw”. enjoy the show!!!
