Season outlook:
John McGovern has done a good job getting Dubuque to be competitive in the tough IIAC, and he returns a pair of NCAA qualifiers from last season’s fifth place IIAC team. Four other conference placewinners are back in the lineup as well for the Spartans. Eric Powell was 4th in the conference, while Derek Mizaur was 5th but finished the season with 20 wins. One noteworthy change is the possibility that 3x qualifier Ryan Warczynski may be moving up to 165 for his final season, with Mizaur dropping to 149. Dubuque has brought in a deep class that covers most of the weights and some of those wrestlers will definitely be in the mix for starting spots while the two returning qualifiers each look to get on the podium for the first time.
