St. John Fisher College has announced the return of men’s wrestling after a nearly 40 year hiatus. The college dropped the sport in 1983. Thanks to a $400,000 gift from alumnus William Pellicano, the program will return. A wrestling room is under construction, and a coach will be hired to recruit a team that will compete in the 2022-2023 season.

The Cardinals have a pair of All-Americans from their previous 18 years of competition, and wrestling will become the 25th varsity sport at the Pittsford, New York, school. St. John Fisher is a member of the Empire 8 and will be the second school, along with Elmira, to sponsor wrestling.
