Wrestler of the Week: Josh Evans

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Josh Evans of Wilkes. It was a light schedule for Division III with many teams off for Thanksgiving, but the Wilkes Colonels were part of a large DIII contingent at the Grapple at the Garden. Wilkes defeated the Merchant Marine Academy and lost to Stevens, but Evans won both of his matches on the day. He opened with a first period fall against Merchant Marine and followed that up with a narrow 7-6 win over 2016 NCAA qualifier Zach Wilhelm of Stevens. Evans is now 8-1 on the year and was the champion at 149 lbs. at the Monarch Invitational.
Evans, a junior from Palmerton, Pennsylvania, was a 2015 NCAA qualifier for Wilkes when he finished 3rd in the East Region. Last season, he posted a 24-9 record to go along with a 21-14 record during his freshman season split between Eastern Michigan and Wilkes. His career record now sits at 53-24 and he was 7th in the d3wrestle.com Rankings published prior to this past weekend’s action. Wilkes next competes at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday and Saturday and will then be off until hosting the Wilkes Open on December 22nd.
