HOBOKEN, N.J. (July 27, 2009) – Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling head coach Michael Clayton has announced the hiring of John Manarte (Farmingville, N.Y.) as a graduate assistant coach for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Manarte will join a program that set the program record for wins in a season with 12 and sent freshman 174-pounder Ryan Dormann to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

A graduate of Hofstra University, Manarte, an NCAA Division I qualifier as a sophomore (2003-04) and Colonial Athletic Association Runner-Up, was a member of the Top 15 Division I team.

“We are excited to have John join our program. He has wrestled at the elite levels of Division I and has trained under some of the nation’s top coaches. He truly brings a great attitude into our room” said Clayton.

Prior to his time with the Pride, Manarte competed for Sachem High School in Long Island, compiling a 108-13 career record. The former Suffolk County Champion and three-time All-County wrestler led Sachem to a league title in 2000, while earning All-American accolades as a senior. A New York State Freestyle Champion and a 2000 Empire State Games gold medalist, Manarte, placed third at the New York State Championships and seventh at Nationals.
