WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week: Mark Corsello

The d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week for this week is Mark Corsello of Elmhurst.  Wrestling at 285, Corsello was the champion and outstanding wrestler at this past weekend’s Pete Willson Invitational at Wheaton College.  Wrestling from the #2 seed, Corsello defeated the #7 seed in the quarterfinals and the #3 seed Lynn Panko of Indianapolis (ranked #7 in DII) in the semifinals to set up a rematch of the 2009 NCAA Championship bout against Dan Laurent of UW-La Crosse.  With the score tied 4-4 due to riding time, Corsello got a last second escape to win 5-4 over the two time defending NCAA champ.

Corsello, a junior from Park Ridge, Illinois, is 26-0 on the season and is ranked 2nd in the latest d3wrestle.com rankings.  Last season, Corsello came from the #5 seed to upset the 4th and 1st seeds on his way to the finals where he dropped a 6-3 decision to Laurent.  In 2008, Corsello finished 7th at 285.  His career record stands at 83-17, giving him 100 total career matches.  Elmhurst is off this weekend as they prepare for the CCIW Championships to be held at North Central College next Thursday.
