Wrestler of the Week: Donny Longendyke

The d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week is Donny Longendyke of Augsburg. Longendyke began his competition last week with a 12-4 major decision win at 285 lbs. over d3wrestle.com #3 ranked Ben Nagle of Wartburg in the annual matchup between the Knights and Auggies. He followed up that win with a championship in the Don Parker Open, notching a pair of falls and a 16-1 tech fall over Conner Herman of Luther, a d3wrestle.com Contender. Longendyke is now 33-2 on the season.

A native of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Longendyke is in his first season with the Auggies after transferring in from the University of Nebraska. He was a member of the Huskers for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, putting up a 40-21 record between his redshirt and redshirt freshman seasons. He was a multiple time Junior and Cadet National All-American and was the top ranked 285 lb. recruit in 2011. This season, he has won the Auggie-Adidas Open, Citrus Invitational, Matman Invitational, and Don Parker Open. Longendyke also finished 2nd in the Dragon Open and 3rd in the Husky Open. He was ranked 5th in the d3wrestle.com Rankings, but that will surely change since his win over #3 Nagle came after the release of the rankings. Augsburg next competes against La Crosse on Thursday of this week.
