A 1977 graduate of Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, Don Montgomery never competed in the sport of wrestling.  A standout on the football field, the former offensive guard was named Mount Union’s Head Wrestling Coach only one year after graduation and held this position until 2000.

During Coach Montgomery’s 22 season career, the Purple Raiders held a dual meet record of 212-98-4.  Competing in the Ohio Athletic Conference, he led his team to nine conference championships and was named OAC Coach of the Year seven times.  His team won six straight OAC titles between 1985 and 1990 and three in a row between 1995 and 1997.  He coached his wrestlers to 65 individual OAC titles.

At the national level, Coach Montgomery has coached 31 individual NCAA Division III All-Americans and one National Champion.  He led Mount Union to the team’s best finish in 1994, when the Purple Raiders finished in eighth place.

Coach Montgomery is currently the Head Football Coach at Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia.
