Gardner III has succeeded both on and off the mat. Wrestling for the powerhouse Wartburg Knights’ program, he earned three All-American awards, ending sixth in 2001, third in 2002 and winning the national title in 2003. His national championship was part of a historic team title for the Knights where they finished with three records and tied a fourth by producing 10 All-Americans, three national champions and two runners-up. Gardner also earned Iowa Conference titles in 2002 and 2003. He wrestled for Iowa Conference team champions in each of his three seasons in program. Gardner is currently coaching at Naval Preparatory School. He has also earned honors on the international stage, placing 8th in the 2002 Fila Jr. World Greco-Roman Championships and 5th in the 2002 U.S. Sr. World Team Trials.
