Josh Thomson - Messiah

The d3wrestle.com Freshman of the Year for 2013 is Josh Thomson of Messiah. Thomson finished his inaugural campaign with an outstanding 40-3 record and a 3rd place finish at the NCAA Championships. In those 40 wins were 10 falls and 9 major decisions. He was the champion of the Empire Conference and the Mideast Regional. He tied for the highest finish for a freshman this year and was one of just three freshman semifinalists at the NCAA Championships. Thomson also had the highest winning percentage (93%) of any freshman national qualifier.

Thomson attended Mechanicsburg Area High School where he placed 4th in the 2012 Pennsylvania AAA State Championships at 182 lbs. His brother Zach, a sophomore at Gettysburg College, also placed 3rd in the 2013 NCAA Championships at 174 lbs. Josh is the highest placewinner for Messiah since 2001.
